The Gold Digger Gambit...a story that's not quite what it seems.

When I started to write the Gold Digger Gambit, I thought I knew what I was doing. I wanted to write a steamy story, and I knew it would feature another of the Honeytrap Inc agency operatives - this time Marco Vitale. I'd been thinking about Marco since writing the Fiancé Trap - I knew his backstory and his triggers, and felt confident I could write a story to do him justice.I thought for one mad moment, it might be easy. Boy, was I wrong. It's not easy to write a story about a 25 year old who marries a octogenarian. Especially when she hasn't known him very long. I had to write carefully to make sure I kept her sympathetic, a character that the readers could like, even under the most difficult of circumstances. Add a list of secondary characters, all of whom developed complicated reasons for wanting Kristie's husband, Montgomery, dead, and the story took on a life of its own. I sometimes wish I were the sort of writer who could decide on a story and write it without veering off from the plan, but I'm not. Characters take over, shiny new plot twists appeared after a good night's sleep, and before I knew it I was wrangling a beast of a story. It took a lot of entangling to tame it, and thread through a realistic steamy romance between Marco and Kristie, but the results were worth it. There's been a great response - I've done my job, because my readers have reached out to let me know that they've loved it. A recent glitch at Amazon has meant it disappeared from sale in kindle version for a week, which has impacted it's visibility, but I'm about to put all my books back into Kindle Unlimited after a foray into wide, because much as I love the idea of the books being available to everyone, the hard fact is that it's difficult for an indie author to gain visibility in the store without being exclusive. So if you fancy a fun, sexy, read, where everything isn't quite as it seems, do check it out, read the reviews - download a sample and see if it's your sort of read!

Building an ARC

So today, I'm building an arc. Not an ark, although there's been enough rain to contemplate doing that too, but an arc. What exactly is an arc, and why am I doing that? Here's the skinny...ARC = Advanced Review CopyWriters often produce Advanced Review copies of their books, which are sent out to readers prior to a book's release. The idea is that the readers, having read it, will leave a fair and honest review on places like Goodreads or Amazon. If I was traditionally published, my publisher would do this for me, but as I'm an indie, I'm in charge of all this sort of stuff. So the manuscript is finished, has been thoroughly edited by my editor, and is now in the process of being formatted while my cover designer does her magic. When I have the cover, I'll be putting the whole thing together with a special ARC cover, and sending it out to interested readers, who I'll contact again to let them know when it's live on Amazon so they can leave their reviews. Why bother? I hear you ask. Why not just wait for reviews to come in as people read the book?Well reviews let other readers know what you thought of the book. Whether you consider it's worth buying, and if reading it was a good experience or not. Also, annoying as it is, lots of promotion places insist on a certain number of reviews before they'll feature a book. So getting some at least at the start is a great way to launch the book. I'm very excited to share more about my new book - once I have the cover, I'll be sharing that and the title and blurb. It's a sexy story I'm really proud of, and I think you're all going to love it!If you're interested in reading an arc and can leave a fair and honest review, click here.

So it's supposed to be summer

I don't know about you, but for me, summer means ice cream, hot sun, and long lazy days. And I don't know what happened - maybe it's because I live in Ireland, rather than a tropical island - but so far that hot sun has failed to materialize, and instead of lying out with an ice cream cone clutched in my hand, I'm shivering in a sweater, drinking coffee, and thinking about lighting a fire.
