NaPoWriMo

Despite everything going on in the world right now with Covid 19 and staying locked indoors to stay safe, April is still National Poetry Month and so I've thought up a few different things to help make it special this year:

First- I'm offering my poetry collection, Fragments as a FREE Kindle download until April 5th, so if you haven't read it yet, this is your chance to pick up a copy for free and enjoy some poetry while in quarantine.

Second- I'm going to be participating in NaPoWriMo, which means I'll be attempting writing a poem every day for the month of April! Because I'm hoping to be realistic about the quality of the poetry, I'm planning to post my favorite poem of the week every Saturday through the end of April on my blog, so be sure to check for poetry every weekend! kayespivey.wordpress.com

Third- I encourage you to pick up some new poetry this month and get to know some great new poets! To this end, over on my Youtube channel I'm going to be posting more poetry related content this month, so head over there and subscribe for more great poetry!

How are you planning to celebrate National Poetry Month and who are some of the poets you're looking forward to reading this month? Leave me a comment and let's talk poetry!

Happy 2019!

Happy New Year! Last year felt like a real turn-around year for me in terms of writing and I got a lot of my goals accomplished. You can read more about that on my blog: https://kayespivey.wordpress.com/2019...

I have a little bit more news I wanted to share here as well! For the winter season, both of my poetry collections are marked down, so get them while they're cheap!

I have also set up a formal mailing list. If you'd like to be one of the first to hear when something big happens with my writing career, and to be entered to win a copy of both of my poetry collections, sign up now! http://eepurl.com/gcV7zr

Looking for Beta Readers

Hey everyone! It’s been revision season YET AGAIN and pretty soon I’m going to be looking for beta readers for my novel. If you think you might be interested, I’ve left a short synopsis as well as the first 3 pages on my website which you can find at this link: https://kayespivey.wordpress.com/novel/
so you can get a feel for the book and see if you might be interested. If it seems like something you’d like to read further, send me a message to let me know so I can keep you in mind to contact as soon as the story is ready to be beta read!

If you’re unsure of what a beta reader is supposed to do, Jenna Moreci did a fantastic video explaining which you can watch at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ziykw...

Thanks!

Congrats to Giveaway Winners!

One of the most exciting parts of the end of a giveaway is getting to see all the different parts of the country that my book is traveling to. 5 winners from all across the country have won copies of Fragments, which are on their way and supposed to arrive by December 18th! I really hope you love it!

In related news, some of you may have heard that Goodreads is planning to change its policy regarding giveaways beginning in January and making authors pay (quite a lot) in order to give away their books. If this ends up being the case I will no longer be running giveaways through Goodreads. I just can't afford it.

Also, as much as I absolutely love entering giveaways myself (I recently won one for a poetry novel that I'm SUPER excited to receive!!) the model that Goodreads proposed means that the indie and self published authors who benefited from the giveaways will basically be excluded, so I won't be participating in the giveaways at all anymore in solidarity with them.

Hopefully Goodreads doesn't go through with charging authors so much just to give away their books for free, but it has been a good run and I've very much enjoyed it up until now. :)

NaNoWriMo this year?

I know I haven't really updated anything Goodreads related in a while, so I thought I'd post a quick update. I'm living at Death Valley and have been all summer. I'm staying cool in the AC, but my internet access has been limited. I've had trouble keeping up with pretty much everything online, but my writing hasn't taken a hit at all! In fact, this summer has been pretty productive for the rewrite of my novel.

However, because novels always do like to try to run behind schedule, I don't think I'll have this current draft finished by October, and so I may carry on with the rewrite for NaNoWriMo this year. Alternatively, if I do manage to finish up, I plan to work on the second book in the series instead. Is anyone else planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year, and what are you going to be working on?

One last big announcement for this coming November, I'm going to run another giveaway of Fragments during NaNoWriMo. America has been hit pretty hard by some really terrible disasters, and I don't have a ton of expendable income to donate, but I want to do what I can to help, and one thing I can do is give away free copies of my book in time for the holidays, so I am planning to do that.

Hope you've had a great summer! Don't forget, both Fragments and An Isolated Storm are still available in paperback and ebook! :)

Congratulations!

The Giveaway is over and the winners have been chosen! Thank you so much to everyone who entered to win a copy of Fragments, and Congratulations to the 5 winners! :)

The winners came from all over the country, which is really fun for me to see. The copies are all going in the mail today so you should be receiving them shortly. I can't wait to hear what everyone thought of my new collection!

Fragments Release!

Today I'm so excited to reveal the cover and announce that my new poetry book, Fragments, is available for preorder! This has been a very long-term project and I'm so happy with the result!

The official release date is May 12th, and I've set it up so that if you order a print copy, you can also get a Kindle copy for free.

In addition, starting on May 12th and running through the end of the month I'll be hosting a Giveaway of the book, so keep an eye out for that!

Lastly, in honor of Fragments' release, An Isolated Storm will now be available for a reduced price for a limited time, so if you've been unsure about checking it out, now's your chance! :)
