It's such an interesting question because I do picture The Hiding Girl as a movie or the Emily Calby Series as a limited video series. My very first thoughts would require time travel. Dakota Fanning comes to mind as Emily when she was around Emily’s age, although she’d have to go through a rigorous physical training program. But she was such a marvelous actor who could capture Emily’s fears and innate sense of innocence, as well as her determination and disintegrating psyche. As for Lucas, maybe a much larger and younger Terrence Howard from his “Hustle and Flow” days. “Hustle and Flow” was, in fact, filmed in Memphis and captured the grittiness of the setting perfectly. In fact, let’s throw in Craig Brewer as director! How about you? Any thoughts on current candidates?(less)

Good to hear from you and thanks for the kind words! Give my best to Louis. I know he's still out there rocking. I gave up the band scene a few years back, but definitely miss playing. Dorian(less)

This was my first Jo Nesbo book. Although the 11th in the series, I found it worked easily as a standalone. My first reaction was, wow, it's long. Not many 544-page thrillers out there. But it kept me engrossed with good, well-developed characters an ...more
Grave Waves by Dorian Box
"This one started a bit slow, and I was feeling disappointed by the pace. Then it picked up steam and almost ran me over. It was great to catch up with Danny, Jessica, and the gang, and the new characters grew on me more than I expected. The story is " Read more of this review »
Grave Waves by Dorian Box
"I am amazed that I enjoyed a book featuring two young girls. Not the typical protagonist about which I read. An exciting and entertaining story. So glad I took advantage of the opportunity to request this book from NetGalley. My review is voluntary."
Funeral Daze by Dorian Box
"Loved it!

One of the best books I've read this year. So well written and the story itself is terrific!! The characters are awesome as well. I'll be reading others in the series. "

Brilliant prose in this noir PI book set in the sixties. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the first half of the book was a bit boring and repetitive. A lot of drinking and driving and not much happening. But the second half was amazing ...more

Really can't go wrong with Ed McBain books for a quick read. Classic police procedurals with gritty stories and characters. This 87th Precinct title from 1972 reflects the era and has a compelling storyline until it kind of fizzles at the end. ...more
