Let Me Promise You the Moon

I’ve done it. Finally another full-length novel for your reading pleasure. What is it about? Will you like it?

I don’t know about the latter, but let me introduce my new favorite book.

Private eye by day. Alpha by nature.

All her life, Kensi has dreamed of being an alpha werewolf. The trouble is, she can’t shift. And she’s tried everything: meditation, mind-expanding drugs, even squeezing real hard. Despite her lack of success, she’s not giving up. Her plan B? Offering her talents as a private eye to the Wild Pack. If she can locate their missing werewolf, they're bound to support her claim to lead.

Dominant, stubborn and searing hot Drake is assigned to be her guide, and he’s just too damn good at his job. His hard chest bumps into her as he stalks her every move, while his mercury eyes watch her all the time, tearing down her defenses bit by bit. Maybe she got it wrong and being an alpha isn't the only thing she wants.

But when the missing girl turns up dead, Drake’s story unravels. Putting her ambitions on the line, Kensi sets out to prove whether the man she loves is as innocent as she hopes—or as guilty as she fears.

Watch the trailer, if you’re not sold yet.

NEW RELEASE - Sigils and Spells

Woot! Party time!

The time has come for my new release, HIDDEN. Ali finally got his own story, and my, doesn’t he play well with Eli (Florian’s brother)? Who’d have known?

For one crazy night, Ali and Eli follow the trail of a suspected serial killer. Their rain-soaked journey takes one twist after another until... You know what? You just gotta read the book yourself (or read the blurb below).

HIDDEN is part of Sigils and Spells, a boxed set that celebrates diversity. Ali being Indonesian-American and gay, he certainly qualifies to be in this set, but really, this is about the story, and about the 23 other UF books in this set. Join us for suspense, laughs, maybe an indulgent sob, and definitely adventure—no passport needed.

Mark Sigils and Spells as Want To Read on Goodreads.

Okay, okay. Let me give you the blurb to make sure your tastebuds are thoroughly teased.

HIDDEN

One werewolf. One vampire. One night to thwart a serial killer.

Spontaneity has never been in Ali’s vocabulary. After all, this werewolf didn’t become second in command to his alpha by stepping outside the box. His by-the-book mentality is challenged the night he finds his vampire neighbor Eli on his doorstep—crouched over a dead body.

Eli isn't just a flirt, he's a force of nature that sweeps aside Ali's suspicions to lure him into a life-changing adventure. The unlikely duo’s quest for the truth takes them through the rainy streets of Silverton, CA, hot on the trail of the real killer.

As Eli and Ali close in on their mark, the investigation slingshots them into a murderous plot to shift the balance of powers between the races. It’s now up to Ali to take a leap out of his comfort zone straight into the conspirators’ firing line, or risk condemning thousands of innocents to certain death.

RIP Divide and Conquer - For Now

NEWS

As of April 1, Divide and Conquer will be no more. The rights have been returned to me. My publisher is in the process of taking the book down from all vendor sites.

At a time when women in fiction still find fulfillment mainly through their relationships, Divide and Conquer was styled to be a "buddy movie"-type story featuring two strong women as heroes. Men welcome, as long as they know to stand back.

Right now, the future of Divide and Conquer is undecided, but neither Lea nor Nieve will be forgotten.

My thanks go to my readers, my publisher (Champagne Books, especially Cassie), to Julie LaVoie, and of course to Celia Breslin, my editor. It's been fun. We should do it again some day.

JABBIC Win For BOUND

I found out yesterday that BOUND scooped up the JABBIC (Judge A Book By Its Cover) Grand Prize in the paranormal category.

Thank you to my writing partner Julie for helping me design the concept art, and to my cover designer, Ana Grigoriu, for taking our ideas and producing such a gorgeous cover.

Inspired by the JABBIC win, I've now turned my thoughts to the cover of Book 3 of The Silverton Chronicles. What is it that makes a great cover in your opinion? I'd appreciate your insight.

Award News for BOUND

It's that time where I'm not sure what to make of this new year. Do I like it? I'll wait another month before I give my verdict. How about you?

Speaking of verdicts...

BOUND has been nominated for the Reviewer's Choice Award hosted every year by the Paranormal Romance Guild. It's incredibly gratifying to see the fruits of your labor being enjoyed by readers.

If you want to cast your vote, you can do so by clicking here.

In other news, the cover of BOUND is also awaiting your vote at this year's JABBIC (Judge A Book By Its Cover) Award. Head on over and rate BOUND and many other covers using the familiar five-star system by clicking this link.
It'll only take a few seconds.

Both contests will be over very soon, so be quick if you want to make yourself heard.

Thank you.

A quick note about my current book, Moon Promise (working title): I'm knee-deep in the editing stage, which I hope to finish this month. Next, I have to adapt the text for the kids' version of A Knight's Quest (the puzzles are all done), and it's off to early readers, for which I still need volunteers, by the way.
March to April will be all about The Silverton Chronicles, Book 3, with editing taking place in May.

At least that's the plan. But in this line of work, you never know...

GET YOUR SIGNED BOOKPLATE

I don't often autograph copies of my books, which is odd in as far as I'm also a collector of modern signed first editions. I'm the proud owner of signed copies of The Graveyard Book, Name of the Wind, Painted Man/Warded Man, Eragon, Skulduggery Pleasant, Underground Railroad, The Bone Season, Kim Harrison, Child 44, a number of signed anthologies, and many, many more.

As for my own books, only two signed copies of Bound exist, two of Divide and Conquer, and around ten autographed copies of Guarded.

Now a shipment of bookplates has arrived, and I'm sending some out to the first ten readers who will send proof of purchase (invoice or picture) of any paperback or hardback you own.

In case you didn't know, Guarded and Bound also contain a handful of drawings, which are not available in the ebooks.

So send in your proof of purchase plus your address to authorcarmenfox at gmail dot com, but do so soon. This offer expires January 31.

A Knight's Quest - New Book Release

For all those eagerly awaiting book 3 of The Silverton Chronicles, I need your patience a little bit longer, specifically until late spring next year.

No, my new book is an activity book for adults, combining story and puzzles into a new form of entertainment. It's called "A Knight's Quest- A Truly Puzzling Adventure."

Join a valiant knight in his dangerous quest to save a princess from an evil dragon. Along the way, you will meet wonderfully eccentric characters, settle arguments, and solve their problems. While some solutions won’t influence your next step, others will be vital to your character’s survival. So be careful, or your journey may be over before you know it.

You can download your free sampler, "the lost chapter," on my website carmen-fox.com/quest. You can also catch the cute new trailer there.

A Knight’s Quest contains about 70 puzzles and brain teasers, including word searches, Sudokus, crosswords, mazes, and many you won’t have seen before. It's a puzzle book for everyone.

Is Sir Neville going to fail or will he find his happily ever after? Well, that's up to YOU.

Bound Audiobook Out Now

Just a quick note for you early birds: The BOUND audiobook is now available. You've been asking for months, and it's finally happened. The narrator is frigging awesome. He really gets into it and each line is perfectly narrated. As a result, I've already received a number of review requests.

Bound

The official promo will start next month, so if you pick up your copy now, you'll be well ahead of the curve.

With Halloween on its way, Conversations With The Dead--both book and audiobook--is also doing well. Many people this year had heard about it from last year's readers, a great sign that word of mouth is still a useful promo vehicle for authors.

If you've enjoyed any of my books, please let others know. Heck, if you've enjoyed any authors' books, any movies or boardgames, don't keep it to yourself. Spread the joy! :-)

Busy Bee

My life is packed. Seriously. There aren't enough hours in the day.

And yet, my mind occasionally idles like a granny's old motor at an intersection. In these moments, my brain might lightly graze ideas, or grab the first thought that pops along.

These 'strays' could be a silly poem, a funny turn of phrase, or even a potential plot. The poem gets written and forgotten, the phrase may be reused in a book, and the story, well, it has about a 95% chance of being a dead end.

Still, I love this switched-off mode. Meditation has never worked for me, but this mental fluidity is restorative.

The only thing missing is a trigger, a way for me to enter this state willingly and deliberately.

How do you recharge? Is there a ritual? Any tips? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, guys.
