Manuel Ruiz was born in Alice, Texas and grew up in nearby Robstown, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Math/Computer Science from Texas A&M University – Kingsville.

Manuel currently lives in Round Rock, Texas with his wife and son where he balances his time around his family, his IT job, his PlayStation and giving the characters in his head something interesting to do.

Manuel Ruiz3 I was a member of the Austin chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writer's & Illustrators (SCBWI) for several years. While attending a conference…moreI was a member of the Austin chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writer's & Illustrators (SCBWI) for several years. While attending a conference in San Antonio, I was in a workshop where we had to create a character and from that character develop a 1 or 2 line "hook." About 10 minutes later, the character of Grey (although unnamed at the time) was born. The base idea grew from there and within a few days I realized I had enough for a novel.(less)
