Writing & Personal Growth

I have been writing since I was eleven years old. I'm 48 now. Doing the math, I've been writing for 37 years. 37! I just can't believe it! It took me 20 years to see my first book published, so I've been writing professionally for 17 years, which is still a long time if you think about it. I've hit a lot of brick walls and other obstacles along the way. I've grown so much!

Because I'm a writer 24-7, it has affected my personal life as well, which I can honestly say I've grown a lot in that area of my life as well! Knowing we can't stand still through life, I bet all of us have grown in one way or another. We can talk, walk, run, take the stairs without help (well, some of us have returned to that part), and more. Growth is a big part of living.

My Writing Growth

Being only a child, when I began writing, my sentences were short and sloppy. There was no depth. It wasn't my fault, my vocabulary hadn't been built yet. I didn't know a lot of things. From there, there was only one direction to go and that's forward. You thought I was going to say up, didn't you? I read somewhere that as a writer, we don't want to be predictable. I did a lot of writing so I could learn to write better. I picked up a word or two along the way!

Writing, for me, was like breathing. I couldn't go without it or I'd die. As I've gotten older, it still runs true for me. Probably more. And my imagination was always crazy. It always ran in the background like some software do on a computer. That means, it never shut off. That runs true today. As an adult, it has gone from "crazy" to "OMG crazy". Some days, it's on the mature side, some days it's a little creepy, and some days I have no idea what to call it. I don't know how I do it, but I have a little control over it now. I can "will" it for my needs. I call that crazy. If you had told my 11-year-old version that I could do that, I would tell you "you're nuts lol. Aint nobody going to train my imagination." Well, that imagination is still wild, yet tame. Kind of odd, I think, but I won't complain!

I was never good in English class, so I thought I would struggle writing my books. You know what? When I pulled out those pages to write, it was like I turned into someone else. Completly someone else. My everyday life didn't affect this girl. I had a lot of practice with that. If I moved to a group of people, I would become more like them, hiding my true self. I thought it was a normal thing. I learned more by doing that and was able to create people in my brain from it. Those people still reside there and poke their heads out occasionally. They tell me, hey, remember me? I want to be a character in your book! So I turn them into characters, naming them when I'm ready to write the story. So, when I sit down to write, it's like I shut off Amber and turn into those characters. Depression along with it. If only I could write 24-7 lol. I mean, the physical part, where I can shut Amber off.

30 years ago, I didn't know about research like I do today. I know nothing about certain things. Luckily, I've got Google and I go to the site and search for things like terms. While, I personally know nothing about a topic I can appear smart and give details about the topic that I wouldn't normally be able to do. That's growth!

30 years ago, I didn't know how to juggle everything. It was an "either" "or" kind of thing. Today, I'm having my cake and eating it too. I learned how to balance my writing world and personal world where I can do everything on my plate, still maintain my sleep pattern (that was always haywire), and be able to have a normal conversation with a total stranger when I need to.

30 years ago, I wrote by hand and typed things up. Today I use a laptop and store everything in one place using different files. It keeps me more organized, which is something I do enjoy!

My personal life has helped me become a better writer. I watch people (sometimes for fun) and learn how people talk to each other. I learned how people can be judgemental of others, and how it can cause trouble. I learned how it affects them. This has made me more compassionate toward others. I learned how everyone has their own point of view, which helps me with my characters.

My Personal Growth

Just as my personal life has affected my writing, the reverse is also true. My writing has helped my personal life big time. I am more open-minded (this is not a sexual term). I say that because, when shared with other people around me, they assume that's what I mean. Then, I have to explain, "no, it means my mind is open". I understand both sides. I can see "what isn't there". Then I have to explain what I mean by that.

I've learned that people outside of the writing world are not the same as the people in the writing world. It is so hard to go between them. Normal people don't understand terms like "open-mind", "my imagination took over", "there are people in my head", etc. I've had to learn to explain things or just not say them. That's hard!

30 years ago, I was so shy. Today, I'm not. Not really. I still have my moments. Starting a conversation with someone new is still hard at times. I owe a lot to my husband. He did so much to pull this woman out of me. I was 19 when we met, so I was still a kid. I still have volume control issues and he is always reminding me to tone it down. When I get excited, I tend to be louder. Sometimes that excitement grabs ahold of me and doesn't let go. He knows that.

30 years ago, I hid behind my writing. Today, I let it shine. But I don't have to hide behind it anymore. I go out. I hang out. It can be fun sitting around and talking to other people, throw out a joke or two, share a prank. Yes, Billy (my husband) has me doing those too. Well, I do them on my own, but it's his fault lol. Took me a while to get there, but now it's got people laughing. Not laughing at me like when I was a kid. It's totally different. I feel better about myself.

There is so much more, but I've shared the bigger things. I know I have more growth ahead. I still struggle with some things, and I know I will improve on them. That's what growth does. You learn your limits and how to push them. Sometimes, you push so hard that you break them. That can be a beautiful thing!

How have you grown?

Chracter Interview--Dr Peter Adams

Amber: Hello Dr Adams. I hope you're doing good today.

Dr Adams: Thank you, Amber. I'm doing all right. Last night was a busy night, but I heal fast so everything is just fine.

Amber: You heal fast?

Dr Adams: I do, yes.

Amber: That's interesting. What else makes you different?

Dr Adams: Well, I don't sleep.

Amber: Not ever? Don't you get tired?

Dr Adams: *laughs* Zack asked me the same thing. No, I don't get tired. I did sleep once or twice as a child, but I haven't slept since. I thought something was wrong so I asked medical doctors without actually telling them that I don't sleep. They said it was unheard of but they didn't find anything wrong with me so I didn't mention it. No sense in stiring up trouble-I get enough of that with the *looks away* vampires.

Amber: I already know you fight vampires. When did you begin slaying them?

Dr Adams: I'm a third generation hunter. My father taught me and his father taught him. It was in my teenage years when I decided I needed more so I convinced my father to allow me to study and go to the universities. We lived in a town called Grantsat. That's where I studied. I'm a professor there now. The university shares the same name. A man named Grant founded the town.

Amber: Well, that's interesting. Does anyone there know about your hunting?

Dr Adams: God, I hope not. They aren't ready for the truth. No one is. Would you be able to sleep at night knowing that vampires roam the streets?

Amber: Well, I do know and I sleep just fine. What's your interest in archeology?

Dr Adams: I love history and learning about the world before I came into it. I believe the love came from my father--that was why I chose the profession. He was an archeologist as well. It's a great cover for what we do.

Amber: I understand your father died.

Dr Adams: Yes, but I would prefer if we didn't talk about it.

Amber: I'm sorry. Were you two close?

Dr Adams: We were, yes. He'd still be alive if it weren't for his friend, Joniah. I can't stand that man.

Amber: Isn't Joniah working with you?

Dr Adams: Yes, he is. The man tricked me. I don't want to talk about it.

Amber: I'm sorry. Is there something you would like to talk about?

Dr Adams: Yes. The location for the legendary song of the bones and sun has been found! My father had been searching for it for his entire life. I must finish the quest in his name. And I pray it holds the answers I've been searching for.

Amber: What questions?

Dr Adams: Why am I much stronger than the average man? Why don't I sleep? What secrets have my father kept from me? The questions go deeper, but those are the ones I'm willing to share right now.

Amber: That's fair. I understand your journey has taken a turn. Would you like to share a little about that?

Dr Adams: Well, there is only a little that I can share. I must locate the Forbidden Place. It is rumored that vampires protect it. These vamps are a special breed. I must take the tablet to this place and destroy it. I heard it was in Egypt, but I won't know for sure until I've made the trip. Amber, I know you have more questions, but this is Monday and I do have a class. I must be on my way before my students become aware of my tardiness.

Amber: All right. Thank you for sitting down with me, Dr Adams.

Dr Adams: Thank you for having me!

And there you have it. Song of the Bones and Sun, the first book in Peter Adams will be released on December 30, 2024. The second book in the series will be coming soon (The Forbidden Place). Pre-Orders are now available!

Book Review: Sticks in a Bundle: The Early Years

I recently read this book and wanted to share it with you! If you haven't read anything by Pat Spencer, you should! I was pulled in and enjoyed it. It's an emotional story, but worth the read! I highly recommend it. This story is based on a conversation between the author and a woman on a bus in Africa. The woman shared her true story about life where she lived. It's so sad that people have to experience things like this (segregation, etc). If you haven't read anything by this author, I suggest you try Sticks in a Bundle: The Early Years. Have some tissues ready. I started reading another book, so expect to hear about that soon!

Pat Spencer has written other books as well. They include...

A Baker's Dozen for Writers: 13 tips for Great Storytelling

Ouija

Story of a Stolen Girl

Golden Boxty in the Frypan

Oceanside: A Healing Place

Hair Coloring: A Hands-On Approach

Sticks in a Bundle:Transitions (coming November 15th)

10 Places to Find Inspiration

Ideas for a story, character, plot, etc are everywhere; waiting for you to pluck it for your book. Sometimes, they are hidden and make you work for them which is okay because that makes it fun. Living a life outside of writing is a must because that is where we draw our inspiration. Of course, we are writers 24-7, it is something that doesn't "shut off". We are writers just as we are humans.

I've compiled a list of 10 places where you can find ideas and inspiration for your current project or a future book. There are way more than 10, so if I leave something out where you've discovered inspiration please comment below for more.

Thank you!!!

Reading a book. I love asking "what if" when doing things. When I'm reading something and I think it could have turned out differently, I'll ask myself what if that person did this or that? You can do that too. There is nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from another story. Just don't steal the story. You can even twist in a different genre for the story's idea making it totally different!

Watching a movie. The same question applies. "What if" can be used for everything, by the way lol.

Your personal life--the people you know. Someone you know did something bizarre, beautiful, or just plain ugly. You can take that event and write a story around it. Or you can use a friend as a character. James Bond's name came from the author's friend! Believe it or not, your life is not boring, something at some point can be used in a book! You can also write a story about that event in your personal life. You can fictionalize just about anything!

Places like a store. Watch people around you, and pay attention to details. You never know when you'll see something or someone who will catch your eye. Even a sign by the stack of potatoes can be inspiring. Don't forget to ask "what if". The airport is a good place to visit and "hang out" for inspiration. Everyone knows Walmart can get weird people visiting. Other great "stores" would be the zoo, circus, any grocery store, smaller stores are good choices too, and the list goes on. Basically, keep your eyes and mind open at all times!

The clouds. Yes, even the clouds. They have shapes. Maybe one of those shapes will trigger something. So, don't be afraid to daydream while looking at the sky!

Your actual dreams make great idea starters. Keep a tablet on your night stand, so when you wake up from the dream you'll have something to write on. Jot down everything you can remember about the dream. Even if you don't use all of those details, it's a good idea to write it all down. You can divide the details among other stories!

People are always bringing inspiration if you're paying attention. Easedrop without being noticed. Pay attention to how things are said. You can add in your own backstory for the two women arguing about the artichokes lol. That's just an example.

Draw in from things you love. A favorite passtime, favorite places to visit, etc. If you love witches, think of something you'd love to see a witch do. Have fun with it. Mix in some other details, combining them to make one idea.

The internet is filled with ideas. Some websites even have writing prompts. Save those pages, sign up for their emails, and enjoy them. You can take the prompt as is or twist it to fit what you write. Say the prompt is for a mystery but you write romance. You can take the initial idea and flip things around so it works for your romance story.

Ask your friends, neighbors, or even your readers. People like being part of the process, esp if they're names are being used as the character. Ask, "what kind of story would you like to read about?" and take it from there.

That's what I got. Enjoy!

My Bucket List

None of us will live forever. Sometimes, that scares me because I don't know when, where, how it will happen to me. I can't handle pain very well, so I'm terrified that's how I will go--very painfully. I have to keep telling myself not to think about it because death is the most depressing thing there is. We've all lost someone so it's something we can all relate to--one way or the other.

Do you have a bucket list? You know, a list of things you want to accomplish before you go? I don't have a list per se, but there are a number of things I do want to finish before my time is up.

My Bucket List

Have 100 books published (it would be so cool to have at least 100. More would be even cooler!

I would love to see at least one great-grandchild come into this world.

I was able to travel around the US, but before I go, I'd like to visit another country. England would be nice.

I would love to see at least one of my books be turned into a movie.

Hitting the best-seller's list for one of my books.

Meet Stephen King and get his autograph. Maybe give him one of my books with it autographed. Be able to have a lengthy conversation with him.

Win an award for one of my books.

Be recognized as an author by someone I don't know.

Win the jackpot (million-dollar prize or more) in the lottery. Okay, I'm dreaming here, but anything is possible!

That's why I got so far. Of course, the list could change over the years. My personal life is pretty much good now, so I don't want too much of it to change. Of course, it would always be awesome to win loads of money or hit tons of sales to where I can get the house of my dreams, but I do want to be realistic. I know there's a 50-50 chance it could or couldn't happen so I'm not getting my hopes up. Everything else, I can work hard to achieve. And I am. Maybe someday, these things could happen to me. After all, these things can happen to anyone and I have just as much a chance as anyone else. You included. I hope we all get the things we want.

What's on your bucket list?

To-Do-List Day VS Night

Having two lists probably doesn't make any sense if you don't know I stay up all night for writing-related stuff. That's one of the reasons why I have so much time to work/write on my books.

During my normal day, I don't have a long to-do list. I do my daily chores (clean our room, wash dishes, and clean up after hubby lol) plus I clean rooms for the hotel. No list for that. For writing, I keep a mental list for what I want to do during the day after work. Sometimes, I finish the unlist and sometimes I don't. I do not kick myself in the butt on those times when I don't finish what I go out to do. The way I see it, I'm way ahead of schedule and I'll get to it tomorrow. I am a professional procrastinator. Really, I am. I've been doing that far longer than I've been writing lol. Occasionally, I do write something down in my planner for me to do on that day like make a phone call, but that's so I don't forget to get it done.

When I stay up all night, I write down what I want to achieve for the night. Here's the list.

Write

Edit

Work on Newsletter(s). I have two

Update Website(s). I have two, but I put my writing site first.

Posts (I schedule a week's worth of posts on IG once a week, plus I have my FB Group that I schedule at the same time)

Play with cover design

Learn

That's what I do every week. Sometimes, I don't get to finish the list because I get so involved with the covers that I lose sight of time lol. I'm having too much fun! I try to make that the last thing I do for the night, for that reason. And if I learn something new, I will practice it for a little while. I'm always trying to learn so my covers will do their job and that's get sales, or at least attention. It's a lot of hard work, but I'm getting there.

To

As you can see from the two covers above, I did way better in the second cover. And that's because I've spent a lot of my nightly time devoted to learning while working on other writing-related things. I think this is one of the things that makes me different. I don't lose sleep over my work, I gain time by not sleeping. I am so proud of what I've accomplished. I don't think I'm finished. I keep searching for more ways to learn. Of course, on that cover, I still need to add one more detail before the book is released in 2025. The tagline.

Why do I stay up at night? I've always been a night owl. For as long as I can remember, anyway. It's the one time during the 24-hour day when I can sit down and really get some work done--no distractions. Believe me, I love my husband, but he can be a pain sometimes lol. So, while he and the rest of the world are sleeping, I can be at my laptop writing, editing, work on marketing, and cover design. Nothing stopping me from getting it done. I drink a lot of coffee or I will drink a couple energy drinks to keep me awake lol. Without those, I don't think I would be able to pull off staying up all night plus be awake during the next day. Back in high school, I was able to stay up two straight nights without going to bed during to bed, but I'm 48 years old now so I'm not pushing myself to try that these days lol. And I didn't drink coffee back then at all! That's what happens when you get older--the drive grows, but physically you can't do it unless you cheat. So, I cheat a little (drink caffeine).

Do you keep a list? Does it help keep you on track? Do you reward yourself when you complete all the tasks on the list? Getting it done is reward for me because I achieved something important to me. That's all the reward I need. What's on your to-do list?

A Book Review--Wicked Desire

Wicked Desire was written by Tory Richards. This is my honest opinion of her story...

I can't say too much without giving away the plot. With that being said, I really enjoyed this story. It was fun getting inside the author's head. It was adult-natured, so if you're not looking for heated scenes please don't read this book. If you ARE looking for it, this is an amazing read. Very HOT. Matt is one of those book boyfriends that you would love to have! He's great looking, has a sexy body, and very protective.

Would I read another book by Tory? That's a crazy question. Yes, I would. She's a great writer and knows her stuff. It took me a little while to get through this story and for good reason! It sure can heat up a room!

I'd give this book 5 stars!

Favorite Ways to Recharge

A person's battery can only go so far. When we're drained, we can easily become overwhelmed. I've been there. Recharging helps. Here are my favorite ways to recharge versus what other writers may or may not do. What's your favorite way to recharge?

As for me...

Watch a movie and tune everything out. I don't intentionally tune people out, it's just something I do, especially when I'm watching something good. But it does help me relax and get into a better mood.

Listen to music and sing along. Singing along really helps me.

Playing games on my tablet. I've gotten addicted to a few of the games and have a morning habit of playing them while I wait for the time to get to work. Sometimes, I have to force myself away from the game to get things done lol. But it does help me wake up, which is a good thing. No one wants a half-cleaned room so I do need to be fully awake to clean them. The quicker I get done, the faster I'm able to get to my writing and other writing-related things. And working sometimes helps me get recharged too, believe it or not.

Okay, yes working. It gives me time to think about things while I'm busy doing other things. It's not a "recharge" so to speak, but it gets me in the mood for it which for me is the same thing lol.

Playing around with covers. I love designing covers. I think I'm naturally artistic. Making things recharges me and puts me in a better mood. It also gets me excited about the story because I've been able to push what the story is about onto a picture. When I actually get it right makes me feel even better!

Visiting with other people. Laughing is awesome and can help me recharge. It also inspires!

Other people...

Go for a run

Take a nap

Reading (I do read, but I'm slow, and that usually makes me feel lousy lol. For me, it doesn't recharge me but other writers would disagree)

Edit another book

Go for a swim

Crafts

Take a walk

Watch the stars

Watch people (I do this for fun lol)

Reenact a scene from the book they're writing

If it's not on the list, what do you like to do to recharge?

Things That Inspire Me

I am a passionate person with a lot of compassion, so when I am inspired, it goes straight to the heart. The other day, I was watching the Final for America's Got Talent and I listened to the janitor singing and I almost cried. Every time I head this man sing, I'm thinking how did he go so long before doing this? Didn't he know how good he was? But I guess, some people really don't know. I mean, this guy is my personal favorite and he's so modest. I think his being on the show is inspiring. The man made it all the way to the end and I hope he wins (this was written before the results came in).

That isn't the only thing that inspires me. I strive to be the best person I can be, so having people around me showing me how I can be really makes a difference. Each person inspires a little differently each day. I wish there were more people in this world who did inspire instead of trying to be better than anyone else. I never did care for that type of person. But I guess it takes everyone to make the world go round--those people can inspire the bad people in our books lol.

For writing, what inspires me?

That's such an easy question. It's quite simple--everything.

A TV show inspired the idea for Trading Places. Friends on FB inspired the details for the plot. It made me so excited to write the story that I moved it up lol.

My grandchildren have inspired books, especially the oldest.

A darkened alley inspired Murder in the Wind.

A nightmare inspired Cursed Blood.

Another dream inspired Kidnapped from Yesterday (a new romance story). More about it in October First's newsletter.

Sometimes, an idea just pops into my head and feels like it came from no where, which I honestly believe isn't true because I keep my mind open all the time. I learned at a very young age if I kept my mind open, I could understand other people's POVs. This was long before I was a writer. Putting myself in other people's shoes helped me to understand more about people. Of course, I didn't really understand why people did things that hurt others because that wasn't something I could do so it took me a long time to learn things like that. But I did. People can do strange things and sometimes, it won't make sense to anyone except that person. I think those people can be more complex and that alone inspired me for some of my characters.

I am inspired by love, by unselfishness, compassion, and beauty. I am inspired by a child's act of kindness. I am inspired by a stranger's lack of judgement.

I am only human. I do the best I can with what I have, and continue to grow as much as I can. People around me inspire me to be the best writer and cover designer too. My two worlds are one. I cannot live life without the other and I can't write without living life. Life inspires my writing. And my writing inspires me. I wish I could be more like some of the characters I've written about, but this is the real world. I could never make something appear with the snap of my finger. But I do enjoy escaping into the world where it is possible! I love how books have endless possibilities!

What inspires you?

A Writer's Must-Have Tool Kit

Every writer is different. One writer wrote by hand using the top of his fridge as his desk (Thomas Wolfe) because he was so tall. I've never read any of his books but after hearing this information from a book on writing, it got me thinking how different we all can be.

He's not the only writer to write by long-hand. There are a lot. With technology growing as it has been, we no longer need to, but some writers still take enjoyment from it. I did when I started out. Of course, for me, it was the only way to write. But then I got my first desktop computer and I was in love with the idea of writing with this method. Once I had enough money to get a laptop I haven't gone back to writing long-hand or using a desktop.

There are writers who use their cell phones. I have tried this but decided using the laptop was easier on my eyes lol.

How and where we write is only the beginning. There are other things a writer needs or could use while writing. Here's a list of what I've learned helps me plus a few more. See if you use the same things. If not, I'd love to hear what you use (that wasn't included on the list)...

Internet or Wifi for research. Google is a big place to search from. It helps to find the right words to use when you have a definition but not the word! I do that search a lot lol. You also need the internet in one form or another to market your book online (IG, FB, etc).

Notebooks. They aren't just for collecting (I know of a few guilty writers who collect them). You can write down notes for the story you're working on or plotting before the story is written. It's also a good way to remember things like names, places, plot ideas, and other important details for the story. Sometimes, you want to remember so and so had blue eyes not green.

Back in the day, we had to have a hardbound copy of the dictionary or thesaurus for writing. I had both. I still have a thesaurus. It helps when looking up words or finding similar words so you're not using the same ones repeatedly. Today, you can search online, but some writers will tell you it's better to have copies of these books on hand just in case. I think that's a good idea. Sometimes, you can't get Wifi.

Music. Having a playlist is a must for some writers. It puts them in the mood and helps them stay in the zone. This is a preference and is not a requirement. If you don't know if you can write while listening to music, give it a try. I didn't use to be able to listen to music while writing, but I've been working on it because I do love music. It's another thing that helps calm me. I do tend to get a little emotional when I write lol.

I've learned over the years that printing out a story can help with the editing. So if you can afford one and have the space, a printer can be quite important for a writer. Today, printers can be on a Wifi which means you can put them in a different room and use other devices to print things.

Pens and Pencils. I have never met a writer who didn't have a ton of pens. I actually got a prize at my family reunion once for having loads of them in my purse lol. True story. I think that was the last one I went to. I still have a lot of gel pens, black pens, and a few red pens, but not as many as I did back then. They help me with note-taking and planning (a different color for different things). And when I'm out and about, I use a pen to jot down ideas. I use my phone for that too.

Mug for coffee. While it's not a requirement, coffee keeps me awake or wakes me up, which keeps me writing or working on other aspects of writing like marketing, research, or just talking to other people. Mugs are for more than coffee, they can be used to hold all those pens too! Some writers like to be organized, which can help them stay busy because they have more access to more things.

Software. Some are better than others, obviously. Every writer has their own list of what they prefer. You should have at least one writing program like Microsoft Word (or something else). You could use online versions or have the file directly on your PC. If you do more than writing, which you should be editing as well, there are software programs for those. Never pass on your story without editing first. Whoever reads your story (editor) should have a copy of your best work. There are places like Grammarly (there are tons more) that can help with editing. Once you feel the story is as close to perfect as you can get it--then you pass it on to another person for more editing. Other software products can help with cover design and formatting.

Snacks. You shouldn't write on an empty stomach. Having snacks close by gives you easy access so you don't have to get up from your area. Every time you step away from your writing, you risk getting thrown out of the zone. Of course, that doesn't mean you have to sit at your desk the whole time. You still want to take breaks to use the bathroom, stretch, and exercise (go for a walk). Writing can cause pain from staying in the same place for too long. Use your judgment on that part. What snacks you keep by you is up to you. Drinks included.

Books. Writers should read. The books you read as a writer is strictly up to you and what you write. But I don't think you should stop at the genre you write because when you read other genres it helps you expand your mind and that is a good thing. Write romance? Read romance and something else that pulls you in. Please, don't stop there. Read books on writing too. And marketing if you can. Both of those can help too. Today, you have a huge list of types of books you can read (or listen to). Paperback, hardbound, ebook, audiobook... Pretty much every writer will tell you this is important so keep reading. How many in a year's time is up to you.

Space to write. I'm back to where I started from. Remember Thomas Wolfe? You can write anywhere on anything! That's the beauty of being a writer. You take it everywhere you go. You can have a dedicated place like a desk, or you can write wherever you feel like writing. Up to you. I use a desk because I prefer having a dedicated place. It puts me in the zone when I want it to (of course, that doesn't stop my mind from going there lol). I know writers who use their kitchen table or their cell phone in the car. We're all different!

Time. We have to make time, but sometimes we get lucky and have a designated time to work on our stories. Again, this is something that will be different for every writer. Things like a full-time job, children, wife/husband, or other responsibilities will affect our writing time. You can squeeze minutes out of a busy day to write a sentence or two while waiting for the bus, stuck by a train, break at work, after the kids have gone to bed, before the kids wake up for the day, etc.

Other things will vary for all writers. What do you keep in your must-have writing tool kit? What are the most important things for you? What will kill you if you don't have it? Reply below and share those things. Include other things that are left out.
