Slightly quirky, always creative, Pearl R. Meaker has been an artist, singer and craftsperson her whole life. Although she's always had stories in her head, they didn't come out to play with others until the advent of home computers with their ease of making corrections and moving bits around.

After several years of writing fanfiction in the world of Tolkien's Middle-Earth, she took a couple of writing courses and dove into writing original works of fiction, and The Can Be Mysteries were born.

When not playing with story ideas you can find Pearl playing with yarn either knitting or crocheting, doing other arts and crafts, bird watching and photographing nature, playing bluegrass fiddle (her husband plays banjo) or relaxing with her hubby on t

I often have trouble with choosing a favorite of anything, and this is no exception.

I love Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. The TV Phryne Fisher and "Jack" Robinson couple is such fun - even though Phryne will never commit to Jack, and I love the love and commitment between Tom and Joyce Barnaby - and John and Sarah Barnaby too - from Midsomer Murders.

I also love my crime solving couple, Emory and Jebbin Crawford in the Emory Crawford Mysteries. Like most of my other favs they are a happily married and committed couple who truly love each other.(less)

Rather poorly much of the time. ;-)

That said, going and finding a writers challenge site, finding a challenge that will fit your characters and write a short story from that. Or, just writing any short story from it. I think it jiggles things around in your head and plus it's just plain fun. Fun helps to get rid of blocks.

Take a day or two off. I mean off. Don't do anything that relates to your story or writing. Take walks. Go to a mall or someplace where it's easy to just wander around. Go out for lunch with a friend. Go to a park or inexpensive tourist attraction you've never been to before. Give yourself some new experiences.(less)

SEPTEMBER 2, 2016 ~ PEARL R. MEAKER ~ EDIT

I took a photo of a bird, really I did. But when I looked at the photo on my camera there was no bird in sight. The cormorant dove under the water while my camera was focusing and I snapped on nothing but water. I could not get the shot. And just like I didn’t get the shot, I don’t “get” everything else I try Read more of this blog post »
