By day, a mom/wife and business executive, by night, Ariel Atwell writes erotic romance novels. An ardent fan of weekends in the country, fine wine and the starting line-up of the Washington Nationals baseball team, she aspires in her next life to be more like Freya, the Norse goddess of love, lust, beauty, and sorcery, who was renowned for her ability to herd cats and for whom the day Friday was named.
Ariel lives in a Victorian farmhouse in the Washington DC area with her husband of more than 20 years, two nearly grown children, one charming dog and two cantankerous cats.

Last week I was having trouble with the opening section of my next book Twenty-One Nights. The hero and heroine were not cooperating. So I took a break and read one of the classic Regencies of all time--Jane Eyre. Of course if JE were written today, Bronte's editor would have made her kill the first third of the book. The story would have started with Jane and Mr. Rochester meeting at the side of the road, or more likely in bed! lol. But in those days readers needed lots of back story and descriptions. They didn't have TV or movies to paint pictures in their minds. Some would not have known what an ocean or a mountain even looked like if they hadn't seen a painting--no photos, no video, no Google. Words were need to tell the stories and paint the pictures of places and things and images we take for granted today. (less)

Writing has allowed me to earn a living which is always a good thing. For me writing is like breathing...a necessity. And there is nothing more satisfying than turning out a paragraph or even a chapter that just works. And nothing more frustrating than not being able to make the words sing the way they should. I try to write books I would enjoy reading. Hopefully others will enjoy as well! (less)

“Not all men are like you,” she said. “Most are not so weak as to require the constant pleasures of the flesh the way you do.” “True. I hope you can bear with me, for I feel that a bout of weakness is coming on. My humble apologies.”
Ariel Atwell, Seven Days

“I, James Cavanaugh, Marquess of Huntley, hereby grant Catherine Lindsay Corvedale, Countess of Bewleton, rights to all the libraries of the Huntley estates. These rights are irrevocable and cannot be withdrawn by my heirs through the entirety of Lady Corvedale’s lifetime.”
Ariel Atwell, Seven Days

“Yours may be the very first blushing pussy I have had the pleasure of meeting.”
Ariel Atwell, Seven Days

“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time

“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”
Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing: Releasing the Creative Genius Within You

“Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it.
Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.”
William Faulkner
