Aleta George is a journalist who writes about nature and culture in California. She lives at the northeast edge of the San Francisco Bay where land meets water and city meets farms. Her work has been published in Smithsonian.com, San Francisco Chronicle, High Country News, Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times, Bay Nature, California, and several travel anthologies.

I was looking for in…moreI first learned about Ina Coolbrith while researching the Farallon Islands Egg Wars at the San Francisco Performing Arts Library. I was looking for information about the actor/theater owner who had gathered eggs from the island to finance his theater. I found what I was looking for regarding the actor, but I also met Coolbrith. My interest turned into an obsession that lasted ten years. Now my new biography about California's first poet laureate is out!(less)
