MidSouthCon 37
Hello, Dear Readers!
I know it’s been a while, so I thought it was time for an update. First – It’s the most wonderful time of the year for me and my husband – MidSouthCon in Memphis is this weekend – March 15-17! This has become a wedding anniversary tradition for us, plus we will get to reconnect with old friends. This year is extra special for a couple of reasons.
It is a great moment for some fun and a time to step away from the reality of the recent loss of our home to a tornado. (Plus, this weekend trip has been planned since last December.) This year, for the first time, I am a Darrell Award Finalist for Best Midsouth Short Story for my story Family Circle which appears in the “End of the World Potluck” anthology!
I am humbled and honored! The winners are announced at the banquet Saturday night at MidSouthCon.
I will be on a few panels this year and would love to see you. Here’s a list of panels or activities where you can find me at MidSouthCon. I also have a couple of spaces on ProRow – where you will have the opportunity to purchase my work and get it signed! (Goodness knows, I can use the money right now!)
Here’s the schedule:

So, there you have it. I would love to see you there. There are so many talented guests at the convention and the costumes are always awesome to see.
If you don’t get to come, keep an eye on my Facebook Page – https://www.facebook.com/lastorythewriter/ for convention experience updates and photos.
Hugs,

Black Friday Kindle Sale!!!
Happy Black Friday, Dear Readers!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with an abundance of all things good for the soul — good food and good company.
As for today … well, I thought I would offer a little treat … I have TWO titles ON SALE for only .99 cents on AMAZON KINDLE!
Just click on the book covers to purchase:
First … for THREE DAYS ONLY, my newest novel “The Witch of Hadler’s Woods” is only .99 cents on Kindle!
Some people are destined to know darkness.
Jeremy Fowler’s imaginary friend has begun talking to him again.
“The Voice” was supposedly cured many years ago after a violent episode in middle school, which resulted in years of therapy.
Now, he has graduated from college and begun his own landscaping business. He’s handsome, respected and outwardly “normal.” Life should be great. Except, he sees the wary glances people still give him in his little hometown of Calvary, Tennessee. All he wants is to be like everyone else.
Soon a chance encounter with a strange young woman precedes a reawakening of The Voice from Jeremy’s childhood. It comes alive again like a volcano which had been dormant for too long. There are other dangerous and disturbing events happening and he begins to believe it is all connected to Hadler’s Woods and to the witch that supposedly lives there.
Hard decisions are ahead and learning the truth of The Voice will endanger both his life and his sanity.
My Next title for sale is “Beyond Shammua” – Book III in my Gifted Trilogy! It will be ON SALE for only .99 cents on AMAZON KINDLE for the next FIVE DAYS!
He is dangerous … and he’s in denial.
The year is 2303 and battle-hardened Caleb O’Shea, a descendant of Sage Waldron, has been working as a mercenary. Much to the disappointment of his powerful family, he consistently denies the heritage of his family’s powerful bloodline.
However, a high-ranking politician has hired him to follow a member of an undeclared warrior species. They have nicknamed the being “Attila,’ and it is Caleb’s job to find out where this being and the others like him go when they leave Earth.
Caleb accepts the mission and discovers a terrifying truth that forces him to embrace his enormous power and reconcile him with the part he is destined to play in the war for the salvation or damnation of humankind.
(**While this novel has some Christian themes, there is mild language, violence and situations best suited to adults.)
THERE YOU HAVE IT! Now … go get some reading material!

Nanowrimo Progress and other announcements
Good morning and Happy Monday!
I have been busy this weekend and I have just a few announcements for you this morning.
I have been busily working on my next novel. It’s called “Seduction of the Witch” and I am using NANOWRIMO as the vehicle to motivate me to write the book more quickly. As of this morning, I have over 6,000 words! (That number will be higher by this evening.) I am a control freak when it comes to writing and it’s very hard to just let it go and keep writing, but I am determined!)
I will have a booth at Jaybird Holiday Market in Iuka, Mississippi this weekend, along with my husband, Keith W. Sikora. He and I will have a booth representing writers for River Oaks Press. We will have books for sale! Come by and buy a book or just say hello!
I will be having an Amazon Kindle sale of two of my titles coming up on Black Friday! Stay tuned to find out which books and how long they will be on sale!
That’s all I have for now. Enjoy your week and stay tuned as I check in with you from time to time! :
Peace out,
LA

Knocking in the Attic – Halloween story
Happy Halloween, dear Readers!!
Being a scifi/fantasy/horror writer, you KNOW that this is one of my very FAVORITE holidays!
So, in honor of this occasion, I am posting a special guest blog from my extremely talented friend, and sister from another mother, Shanan Collins. This is one I posted from another blog about a year or so ago, but it is one of the creepiest tales have ever heard and it’s a TRUE STORY!!!
Enjoy your Halloween and be careful while the veil is thin …
Bwahahahaha!!
P.S. Stay tuned! In the next few days, I will have some announcements for you.
Knocking in the Attic
Guest blog by Shanan Collins
When I first heard the knocking in the attic, I had a specific picture in my head of who it was trying to communicate with me. I always pictured her as a typical old witch, like the one in Snow White; which is odd because “she” was never more than a sound.
I lived in a normal house in a boring neighborhood. The only thing that made any of it remarkable was that my room was an addition. It was the only room upstairs and it had its own access into the attic from my walk-in closet.
One afternoon as I was doing homework, I heard a banging noise coming from my closet. I ignored it. The noise, which sounded like someone knocking on the attic floor, became louder. Hesitantly, I went into my closet and listened carefully for any other noises to indicate what type of creature this knocking was coming from. I heard no footsteps, no breathing, but something knocked right above my head.
I ran downstairs and retrieved my mother’s broom. I proceeded to tap on my closet ceiling in a simple sequence.
It was repeated back to me.
Okay, maybe some squirrels have caught on to the knock-knock game. I tapped out a more difficult sequence … it was repeated back to me perfectly. I kept this up for several minutes, always with the same result… something was up there and it was intelligent. I ran as fast as I could downstairs and told my parents who of course thought I was being a bit delusional. They did not believe me
I heard the knocks infrequently throughout the night. After having gotten no sleep, I persuaded my dad to look in the attic. I was afraid of what might come down, once it was opened up. I was afraid for my Dad. I was afraid that “she” would knock him right off that ladder.
He didn’t find an old witch or the cause of the knocking, but I was not prepared for what he did find: hundreds of dead birds.
Hundreds.

Next Book – Nanowrimo
Hello, Dear Readers!
So far, I am happy to report that “The Witch of Hadler’s Woods” is selling very well!
Now it’s time to move on to the second book in the witch series – “Seduction of the Witch.”
I will be using Nanowrimo (National Write a Novel in a Month) during November to write my first draft as quickly as possible.
Wish me luck!
Starting November 1st … I will hit the ground running!
For those who are curious about the second book … here’s the cover (which may be tweaked a little but basically, this is it) … and a synopsis:
Seduction of the Witch

Now, he has learned that there has been a challenger to his throne in Noonan. Turmoil threatens the people in his realm and a devil king threatens Moira in the human realm.
He cannot wait any longer. He finds himself in the awkward position of having to seduce his own wife, who has taken a human vessel and has no memory of who she truly is.
