I’ve always wanted to be a writer. As a kid, when I didn’t have anything very interesting to say, I still wrote stories, lining up my words like empty Mason jars.

When I went to college, there was no writing degree, so I picked English lit and followed that path through grad school. During those years, I kept writing -- short stories mostly, in various genres. I was never satisfied with them; my stories always wanted to be longer. I told myself I'd get around to writing a novel, eventually.

After college, I got married; we had three kids and the hectic years flew by. I kept writing, but between work and child-raising, there wasn't much time to think about novels.
