ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Alan J Cooper embarked on a writing career after being struck by an impaired driver and incurring a severe brain injury. He began by writing articles on spiritual issues for Canadian journals, including Toronto’s national newspaper The Globe & Mail but established himself as a full-fledged author with the publication, to great acclaim, of BRAIN INJURY in 2006.

After his catastrophic accident, Alan also embarked on a life of philanthropy and social justice, serving on a number of Boards dedicated to helping those less fortunate, and being a career counselor to people who have lost their jobs. Alan Cooper THE SECOND A Novel about Spirituality, Religion, and Politics by Alan J Cooper

Thank you, Malka Ahmed. You may find riveting my new novel, The SECOND by Alan J Cooper, about the difference between religion and spirituality. There is a 5-minute video at www.alanjcooper.com.

A half-century ago, when baby boomers reached their teens, there began a giant drop in traditional church attendance. At the same time, there came to grow a spiritual hunger as manifested in ecological awareness, human rights and social responsibility.

There is thus today a huge gap, addressed in part by the quick fix of religious fundamentalism as it historically has done to address both Homo sapiens’ fear of death and slavery to fertility. For, however, a 21st-century person, trying to progress along any set of values based on principles, the guidance can feel vague.

Hence, the story of our heroine in The SECOND.

Best, Alan
