New Projects

I started a new project last night. Write a chapter a day for the next 30 days. The main reason was because it has been a while, (since October) that I had written something that excited me. I’d been in a writing slump due to real world busyness, but now I hope to get back into writing mode.

Happy New Year

Hello friends,

I took a short hiatus towards the end of 2015 in order to focus more on school and work. Things were getting too hectic to keep up and some things had to be set aside. I am eager to get back to writing and blogging more now that the new year is well on its way.

In the mean time you can find me on my instagram @ofartandfiction and on twitter @milasankale

Hope everyone had a happy holiday season and Happy New Year to all.

Holidays

I have been quiet lately, mostly because my real life got hectic, which is pretty common as holiday season approaches. In the interim I’ve been doing some reading and contemplating the direction for my blog. I have some ideas I’m working on but until then…Happy Thanksgiving

Anathema Update

It has been a long / rough week, but Anathema final draft is submitted for final checks. Which means that the release date is pushed off for a few more days while I wait. Not too stressed out about it though, mainly because it’s done and out of my hands, and also because I’ve already started working on the next installment. Which I think will work out even better because I had every intention of making Anathema available on Kindle for free download and since Halloween is coming soon, I think that would be the perfect time to release both.

Anathema

Its been a pretty decent week writing wise. I spent the weekend (in between breaks at work and midterm papers) polishing some short stories I’d written since August. Most of them will end up going out for submissions, but one I’m keeping for myself as part of an episodic series of stories I’ve been mulling over. Here is a sneak peak. I will be polishing up the first story Anathema and posting it online on Oct 20th.

ANATHEMA | Mila N. Sankale | Oct 20 2015

Rose Saitoti spends her days digging underneath rubble, slowly clearing the city center whose devastation began the December Wars. The work is grueling and pays little, but Rose knows that clues to her parents disappearance are somewhere in the city. What she doesn’t know is that clues are not the only thing hiding in the ruins of the city. Rose comes across something dark and far more terrifying that she could have ever imagined.

Rejection

The hits keep coming. Last week a sudden flu completely wiped me out. After a week of fever, chills and plain simpering my way out of the dredges the flu had dragged me into, complete with too much tea and a pile of backed up work that all needs attention, I received a rejection slip for a short story I submitted for consideration to an anthology weeks ago.

The bright side? The flu is finally leaving, though fatigue and a nasty cough remains I am feeling pretty good. As for the rejection? It’s not my first or second, and I guess somewhere along the way my skin thickened because after the initial disappointment I laughed and decided that I would start the perfect thing to do would be to post the rejected story for any who want to read it.

As a treat, find the rejected story Bone through the short stories link.

Other Writing News?

Well, I just completed a draft for a short story which I intend to publish and submit to some magazines, AND I have also started the first draft of a project that I am pretty excited for. The project ties in with my read/dissect a story or novel a month, which I have actually started on and will post about pretty soon.

The idea is to write a series of short stories and post them on here on the blog, and eventually on Amazon / Kindle. I’m pretty excited by what I have so far but of course a lot of editing and planning etc has to go into it, expect it soon though. Anyone interested in beta reading feel free to contact me at MilaNSankale@gmail.com

cheers

Troubleshooting

As it happens when a person is really busy, productivity in some areas will start to suffer. The last week has been beyond hectic which meant that I’ve barely revised or written anything. And the feeling of having gone a whole weeks without creating or producing something chafes. The irritation and frustration led me to do some troubleshooting and some self investigating about what I am really trying to accomplish [as it turns out not having a definite plan or goal to work towards is not good for me] some people can work that way, I tend to work better with some project or end in mind.

I’ve also realized that in my self-education in writing [my studies are focused in the stem fields] I need to widen my knowledge base as well as really start looking at works out there as lessons. SO I’ve decided to incorporate a self-guided lesson plan that will hopefully teach me something and make the whole writing process more enjoyable and multifaceted for me. Over the next seven months I will read and dissect either two short stories or a novel per month and post a short review/what I’ve learned post on here.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you go about learning how to write, if self taught or otherwise. Otherwise, good week to all.

The Fall

‘The tower fell, and the gates closed forevermore.’

Opening quote to the new short story I’ve been working on titled the fall [working title & expected to change]. The idea came from a name I heard in passing and like most things it just stuck in my head. After some research I realized that there was a good story to be mined there. Writing hasn’t been the easiest since the story just rose out of nowhere and I’ve had to do a lot of re-writing and rethinking over the past week. I will probably do one or two more re-writes, but at least now I am past the first draft phase YAY!

Other news, I’ll be posting another short story in the upcoming week on the blog, it will also have the link to the Amazon page for those who want to offer support.

Groundwork

Part of being a writer is discovering what it takes to get you writing. For me its setting small goals and challenges towards getting an idea on paper.

Most recently I have been mulling over a story idea for some time and early this week I set the groundwork to writing it. Over the last three days every attempt at writing has staggered to a frustrating halt at little over five hundred words. The beginning is often the hardest, when the mood and feel of the story is so bright in my mind but what comes out is abysmal in comparison. Thankfully I have learned enough about myself in the recent years to know that I just have to push through it until some gold starts gleaming through the debris.

Today, it finally did. I set a word goal of 9k and I finally broke through 5k. From the looks of it the story  will top out at around 10-12k  but I am just glad to be writing. More about the plot in the coming days. Stay tuned.

Happy Hump Day
