CLOSE TO HOME Cover Reveal!
So the release date of my newest book,
CLOSE TO HOME
, is coming closer every day... So close, in fact, that we officially have a cover! While the final cover image won’t be released until February 28th, I wanted to celebrate its reveal with you a little early. You can see a teaser image of it below.
But here’s where the fun happens. The first 50 readers who add CLOSE TO HOME to their shelves will unlock a new blog post from me with an excerpt of one of my upcoming books, as well as a clearer image of the cover. The more readers who add CLOSE TO HOME to their shelves, the more excerpts from my books will be unlocked. Keep adding, and when we reveal the CLOSE TO HOME cover on February 28th, you’ll get a sneak peek into CLOSE TO HOME itself!
I’m so excited for this reveal, and I hope you are too. Happy reading!

An Excerpt from TELL ME and a Little More CLOSE TO HOME!
First off, I’m so happy that
CLOSE TO HOME
is now on more than sixty of your Goodreads shelves! As promised, here is a clearer picture of the cover!

Before I go, I have one more treat to share: a sneak peak of TELL ME, which will be available in paperback this coming Tuesday 2/25/14. It’s about a reporter whose latest true crime book has put her back in the cross-hairs of a killer. Read the excerpt below, and if you haven’t already, add CLOSE TO HOME to your Goodreads shelf for more cover reveals and excerpts! When we reach 100 shelves, we'll be back with an even clearer image of the CLOSE TO HOME cover and an excerpt of yet another of my novels!
TELL ME excerpt:
Nikki read through old testimony, especially Blondell O’Henry’s, about the night in question. As she did, she saw in her mind’s eye the scenario that had unfolded in the old cabin. It was a small building, one Nikki had known well, as it sat on the edge of property belonging to her uncle. Blondell was contemplating the loss of her unborn child and her recent divorce from her husband, Calvin, whom she swore was abusive. That’s why she’d taken her three children to the cabin: to think things over and get her priorities straight. Her relationship with Roland Camp had been unraveling, and she had been faced with a future as a single mother.
Blondell maintained that her two younger children had been asleep, tucked into the loft above the main living area; her older daughter, Amity, was on the pull‐out couch downstairs. Blondell had been out back on the screened‐in porch, wrapped in a sleeping bag on an old chaise longue, drinking wine and watching the rain pour from the heavens to dimple the dark waters of the lake and listening to it pound noisily on the roof. She’d said it was nearly impossible for her to hear much of anything else, but she didn’t mind. Caught in her own troubles, she’d been lulled by the wind and rain and wine while her kids slept inside the tiny cabin—basically one large room with a loft and a small alcove for a kitchen, along with a closet‐sized bath.
She’d intended to bed down for the night on an old recliner near the fire that she’d lit in the old rock fireplace but had taken a few minutes to herself.
And that had been her mistake.
Somehow she’d closed her eyes and nodded off to the steady rhythm of the rain. She didn’t know how long she’d dozed, only remembered that she’d awoken sharply at the sound of a car backfiring in the distance and just before a dog began barking wildly. The rain was still steady, but not as strong. She had a sudden premonition that something was wrong. Very wrong.

Jillian took a sip of coffee, set a squirming Marilyn onto the ground and was about to walk up the stairs to her bedroom when her cell, still in her hand, jangled. She answered before the second ring. “Hello?”
“He’s alive,” a reedy, paper-thin voice whispered.
“Pardon?”
“He’s alive.”
“Who? Who’s alive? Who is this?”
“Your husband. He’s alive.”
“I know he’s alive. And by the way, he’s my ex.” She knew Mason Rivers was very much alive and still driving a BMW, practicing law and most likely cheating on his most recent wife. Lots of women wished him dead, but Mason was just too damned egotistical to die. “Who is this?”
“Not your ex.”
“I’m hanging up,” Jillian said after a moment. A cold sensation was climbing up the back of her neck as she stared out the kitchen window at the gray waters of the lake. Her own pale reflection in the glass looked frightened. “Who are you?”
Click.
The phone went dead and as she stared at it she saw that her hand was shaking. Trembling. Her throat as dry as dust. Aaron. Whoever was on the other end of the phone was telling her . . . warning her . . . that Aaron was alive?
What the hell was that all about? And it wasn’t true!
But they never found his body, did they?
You never quit believing that someday he would walk back through your front door to explain how he’d left you alone after he’d embezzled all that money. After the police had suspected you were in on the plot to steal over half a million dollars in funds from people who had invested with him, trusted him.
“Oh God,” she whispered and dropped the phone, sending it clattering across the tile floor.

“Rosie?” A voice that was vaguely familiar called from the darkened car. “That you?”
Keep walking.
She didn’t look up.
“Hey, it’s me.” The cab’s interior light blinked on and she recognized the driver, a tall man who was a regular at the diner and who now leaned across the seat to talk to her. “You need a ride?”
“No, it’s only a little further.”
“You’re soaked to the skin,” he said, concerned.
“It’s okay.”
“Oh, come on. Hop in, I’ll drive you.” Without waiting for an answer, he opened the door.
“I don’t--”
“Your call, but I’m drivin’ right by your house.”
“You know where I live?” That was weird.
“Only that you said you’re on Umpqua.”
Had she mentioned it? Maybe. “I don’t know.” Shaking her head, she felt the cold rain drizzling down her neck. She stared at the open door of the pickup. Clean. Warm. Dry. The strains of some western song playing softly from the radio.
“You’ll be home in three minutes.”
Don’t do it!
The wind blasted again and she pushed down her misgivings. She knew the guy. Had been waiting on him ever since she took the job. He was one of the better looking regulars. He always had a compliment and a smile and left a good-sized tip.
“Okay.”
“That-a-girl.”
Climbing into the truck, she felt the warm air from the heater against her skin and recognized the Randy Travis song wafting through the speakers. She yanked the door shut but the lock didn’t quite latch.
“Here, let me get that,” he said, “Damned thing.” Leaning across her, he fiddled with the door. “Give it a tug, will ya?”
“Okay.” The second she pulled on the door handle, she felt something cold and metallic click around her wrist. “Hey! What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she demanded, fear spreading through her as she jerked her hand up and realized she’d
been cuffed to the door handle.
“Just calm down.”
“The hell I will! What is this?” She was furious and scared and tried to open her door but it was locked. “Let me out, you son of a bitch!”
He slapped her then. Quick and hard, a sharp backhand across her mouth.
She let out a little scream.
“There’ll be no swearin,” he warned her.
“What? No what?” She swung her free hand at him, across the cab, but he caught her wrist.
“Ah-ah-ah, honey. You’ve got a lot to learn.” Then holding her free wrist in one hand, he gunned the engine and drove toward the entrance to the Interstate.
“Let me out!” she screamed, kicking at the dash and throwing her body back and forth, screaming at the top of her lungs.
Dear God, what was this? What did he plan to do to her?
Panicked, she tried to think a way out of this. Any way. “I–I have money,” she said, thinking of the cash in her pocket, all the while struggling and twisting, all to no avail. His grip was just so damned strong.
“It’s not your money, I want,” he said in that smooth, confident tone she now found absolutely chilling. His smile was as cold as the wind shrieking down the gorge. “It’s you.”
