“We can give you medication to help with the nausea, but the trial we’ve recommended doesn’t include Cisplatin. You’ll be getting a drug called Cetuximab. It’s not actually a chemotherapy agent, but a monoclonal antibody that’s effective for your particular cancer. Cetuximab has its own side effects, but less than you would have with Cisplatin. Some people don’t have nausea at all.” Dolly said, “Cetuximab is a good choice, Pat. It’ll be much easier on you than Cisplatin, and it’s very effective.” I wasn’t convinced. I wanted the best treatment, not the easiest. I wanted this cancer gone! “But you said Cisplatin is the usual drug. Is it more effective than Cetuximab? Is Cetuximab experimental?” Dr. Fidler shook her head. “No to both questions. The FDA approved”
