In the Blog-inning...
I finally figured out that I had a blog option here. (I am a swift learner, let me tell you.)
Thanks to everyone that's already purchased the first book in the Santa Monica University series. The book has been 20 years in the making, which just astounds me. (No, I promise the next book will not take 20 years to write.) I began writing it when I was in college. You know, back in the olden days. Over the next two decades, I was very bad about setting the book down after I'd written a couple of chapters, and not working on it again for a few years. When I managed to achieve some clarity on the series, I got serious about finishing it (shout out to my peeps in the Visalia, CA writing group!), and pulled up my draft to learn that there was a ridiculous number of outdated references. VCRs, land lines, and flip phones were just a few of the appearances that made me giggle. Then, cry. It became very apparent that the book was going to need to be rewritten to a significant degree.
So that's what I did. I wrote it again. Then, I basically wrote it again, again. I lost count of how many times I actually read the book to make sure that it was complete and ready to go to the editor. And before I knew it, I was a published author. It's been my lifelong dream (as has winning millions of dollars in the lottery, but honestly, I don't think that's going to happen), so to see my name on all of the major ebook retailers was no small thrill.
That was my very long way of saying, "Thank you." Thank you for taking a chance on an unknown author. Thanks for embracing these characters. They're as real as you and me, as far as I'm concerned. Don't worry. I don't, like, see them or anything. That's just asking for a trip to a padded cell. I've just spent such a significant part of my adult life shaping these characters that they really have taken on a life of their own. They are all smart and funny and kind-hearted and have great senses of humor. It's been a pleasure to take this 20-year journey with them.
The first book, Undecided, is out now, and the second book will be available this summer.
Also, as it turns out, living a lifelong dreams doesn't necessary pay the rent. I'm not a fancy author with a hired staff. I'm, like, a hair-up, PJ-wearing, peanut-butter-from-the-jar-eating kind of author, and I really love email conversations with people. So, if you want to drop me a line, you'll actually get me and not somebody who has been hired to respond to people.
Thanks for making my dream a reality. You rock.
