New Book Update
Hi Friends,
A quick note to let you know about my forthcoming book, "The Vanishing of Carolyn Wells," which comes out on February 13! (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...)
It's a biographical treatment -- the first ever -- of a once famous, now forgotten mystery author, but there's lots of literary history and book collecting lore folded in.
Here's the elevator pitch: Before Agatha Christie, there was Carolyn Wells (1862–1942), a former librarian who wrote 82 mystery novels, plus 100 other books besides–popular children’s books, young adult novels, beloved anthologies–and countless poems and prose for magazines both big and little.
Some of her books became bestsellers, others were made into films with Edison. Yet she was largely erased from literary history. I determined to find out why, following a paper trail to Rahway, New Jersey, where Wells was born and is buried; to New York City’s Upper West Side, where she spent her final twenty-five years; to the Library of Congress, where her collection of rare books now resides; and to many other public and private collections where exciting archival discoveries unfolded.
I hope you'll consider adding it to your virtual TBR list for 2024.
Best wishes,
Rebecca
