Solveig Eggerz grew up in four countries — England, Germany, Iceland, and the United States, where she spent six childhood years. Later she returned on a scholarship from the American-Scandinavian Foundation to attend the University of Kansas.

After working as a reporter, she spent decades teaching writing in forms and settings that most writing teachers never encounter: on-campus courses at Northern Virginia Community College, workplace writing for firefighters at National Airport, employees at the CIA and the Department of Defense, and — for eleven years — Writing Readability to military and civilian students. What I enjoyed most about this book was its historical aspect as described in the first part. Hedy's young life in Vienna, Austria, was very moving and suspenseful. This period before Hitler's Anschluss in 1938 was so well described. Also the author ...more
