I am a pseudonym, a pen name, a nom de plume. As such, I don't exist in a real sense. I exist to the extent that He lets me exist - at least that's what He tells me.

I am tenuous at best. My very existence is threatened every day - unless I start to pay my way. The threats, the loathing - it really is no way to not quite exist.

I tell Him that I do exist, that I am published. That strangers like what I do, call me literary; lyrical too. I tell Him that I will last for ever - that my achievements are real, tangible - and don't only exist as electrons.

He says I am not real, my achievements are nugatory, transitory; piffling. I tell him that he ought to be like me: lyrical, beautiful - like a cloud. The cloud. He knows the cloud I talk of. The c

Hi Sandy.

I'm working on a sequel and a prequel. The same characters as 'Four Days." Although the prequel is Shannon centric. She's fun to write. I've had to limit her to places I've been - so that I can dive into my memory of place as I write. It's a linear narrative - first person again.

The sequel is a follow on from "Four Days" and has those two crazy kids trying to make their relationship work - or at very least figuring out what their relationship is. The narrative is in essence their year apart. I'm also toying with time, and whether or not to have the narrative flash back to their (post Four Days) time together as their time apart unfolds.

I'm aiming for Christmas - although I'm not sure which year. And if Christmas doesn't work out, then I'll aim for Easter or Melbourne Cup Day or Queen's Birthday...

I've read a bit on how to write more effectively. But I don't have the economic imperative of needing to churn out 'x' amount of words per day. And I like that I can re-read as I progress and tweak pieces here and there. (less)

I've read a couple of how to write more efficiently books, and in part there's some useful stuff - but mostly I've no need to churn the words out. The books I've found most useful to me have been the ones that have made me think about reading, rather than the ones that are about writing.

I read on your page the outline - and it does sound interesting. I'm also halfway through The Glass Girl. I'm not an avid reader - and I don't delve into books lightly, so don't assume my slow progress is a reflection of my views on it. I'll find time over the weekend to get further along...(less)

Unidentified Girl

The New York Public Library has an online database of photographs, many of which are in the public domain. This photograph is called "Unidentified Girl." As the title suggests, there is no information about the photograph. No when, no where, no who, no why. It's simply a photograph of a girl that ended up in the NYPL holdings. I found it because I was searching for cover imagery and had tagged "gi Read more of this blog post »
