His debut, The Secret Gospel, was shortlisted for the Rethink Press New Novels competition and reached the quarterfinals of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. No White Lies, his second book, was a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards.

Grow a thick skin and keep writing. Everyone has an opinion but not everyone is right. The growing stack of rejection slips from mainstream publishers for my first novel, The Secret Gospel, was pretty disheartening. It's now sold more than 30,000 copies, and counting!(less)

Obviously it won't quite play out they way they dreamed it would!
I'm also adapting No White Lies into a screenplay, working with producers in the US and UK.(less)

"Cornwall comes alive here...windswept cliffs, hidden chapels, and a community hiding dangerous secrets. I loved how the thriller plot was tied to deep questions about faith, guilt, and redemption. The pacing was excellent, with just enough breathing " Read more of this review »

“Al-Azhar mosque in El Hussein Square. One of Cairo’s oldest houses of worship, it once doubled as a university, renowned in Europe and throughout the Arab world for its scholarship. Standing on the footpath, Alex took a moment to admire the structure, named after Fatima al-Zahra, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. Five minarets stretched toward the sky, each with balconies and intricately carved columns. There were six entrances. The main one now before him was built in the eighteenth century and known as Bab El Muzayini, the barber’s gate. Students had once been shaved there. The mosque was a potpourri of architectural styles, built piecemeal over its thousand-year history. But the overall effect was quite beautiful.”

“So the Islamic Army is one of those offshoots?” Alex asked. “You’ve got it. Their motto is taken directly from that of the Brotherhood: ‘Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Koran is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.’ They have been blamed for a slew of beheadings in recent times and are known to have links to al-Qaeda in Iraq. Needless to say, they are a tough bunch, and they mean business.”

“the autumn of 1944, the SS constructed a gas chamber at the women’s prison camp. They gassed several thousand before the liberation by Soviet forces in April 1945. Rebekah Weizmann made it all the way through to February of that year. Then, one day, she just disappeared. “It was often the way at Ravensbrueck. One day, someone was there, another, they were gone,” said Avigail. “I was heartbroken, of course, but I don’t recall crying. There were no tears left by that stage, and I had her daughter to protect.”
