Jeffrey Westhoff has served as a film critic, feature writer, reporter, and copy editor in his career as a journalist. Jeffrey wrote his first novel, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, while working as a freelance writer.

Jeffrey grew up in Erie, Pa., where he spent his Saturday mornings at the library and his Saturday nights at the movies. That love of reading and film prepared his future as a movie critic. Seeing Star Wars on its opening day in 1977 made him a movie lover, but it was a viewing of The Spy Who Loved Me that sealed Jeffrey’s fate as a James Bond fan. His first published movie review appeared in the Erie Times-News while he was senior in high school.

Also during his senior year of high school, Jeffrey made a campus visit to Marquette U

I am working on another spy novel, but it will be aimed at younger readers.

However, a short story featuring Foster Blake, the fictional superspy I invented as background for The Boy Who Knew Too Much is banging away at my consciousness and I may have to write that first.

I recently wrote a short spy story, "Sidetracked," starring a teenage girl and set during the Cold War, that will be included in the anthology Young Adventurers: Heroes, Explorers & Swashbucklers coming in autumn 2015 from Intrigue Publishing. The story pays tribute to one of my favorite books, Harriet the Spy.(less)

Jeffrey Westhoff answered Mr. Good Read's question: Jeffrey Westhoff
Ages 7 through 12 would be the most appropriate, but I hope their older siblings and parents get a kick out of the book, too. I was inspired by the multilevel humor of Bullwinkle, Animaniacs, Phineas and Ferb -- and of course, Lewis Carroll.

“All the greatest men are maniacs. They are possessed by a mania which drives them forward towards thier goal. The great scientists, the philosophers, the religious leaders - all maniacs. What else but a blind singlenee of purpose could have given focus to thier genius, would have kept them in the groove of purpose. Mania ... is as priceless as genius.”

I could either do what that other boy had done, or I could spend the rest of my life outside society, where it was safe”
