Try to target reviewers/authors who either read or write in your genre. For example, as yours is a short story collection, you should probably start following short story writers on social media and then approach those you feel your work might resonate with. Try to find points of connection between you and that author...same publisher? Similar writing style? Met once at a festival? Don’t be disappointed if they decline - they may be busy or have other obligations or perhaps not feel comfortable reviewing. And be prepared for people to be honest too - if the work is not for them, they may tell you that (which is disappointing but doesn’t mean it’s not going to resonate with others). And be appreciative - it takes hours of work to read and then write a considered review. 😊 But let me get you started. I would love to review your collection if you would like me to! Whenever I receive a rejection, I try to find out why my work didn't do so well, or I explore the work of the other authors who were successful, in order to find ways to improve on my own work. Critical feedback is vital to ensure you keep learning and improving as a writer. Whether it's from an editor, a writing buddy or a reader, comments about what is NOT working can provide the basis for a re-examination of your work. And then, of course, there's always wine. And chocolate. They're good, too. (less)
