John refused to write his own biography. He said it would be 'pompous and arrogant.' I told him he still needed to write one. He refused. He's stubborn like that. He didn't know what to write or say about himself. But, I have a pretty good idea.

He doesn't like doing the standard boilerplate. He doesn't like telling you what his interests or hobbies are, he doesn't think you care. He doesn't want to sound like everyone else and I'll tell you why. He won't say it, but I will. He's not like everyone else. He's not like any other author I've ever read and I've read over a hundred different ones.

I assault the blockade. The key, to me, is to not let it cool. The longer the block sits there, the more firm it becomes--at least with that project. Just because you're writing doesn't mean you have to keep everything you write to get past it. In the middle of all that mess, if it is a mess, I usually find the one or two sentences that unlock everything.

If that doesn't work . . . I have a good long smoke. I just sit . . . and think. I talk it out. I'll assault it that way. I'll watch classic horror. I'll intake anything and everything.

Faceless

In the wake of what happened with me and my wife, I've been seeing a therapist. I've been working through a lot of issues, things that I tried to bury alive, things that weren't quite dead. Normally, being passionate about fitness and self-motivation, it wouldn't even be worth mentioning. Usually, I say whatever you have to do to stay healthy and continue working forward is necessary and wonderful Read more of this blog post »
