Greetings, and thanks for your question! This is actually quite an important subject to me.

Computer gaming has been one of my favorite activities for the last 25 years. Games have been through more technological changes and advances than I can count, but one thing remains the same: the writing and story matter. Awesome graphics and a big budget are nice - a great story, however, makes a game relevant far beyond its brief technological milieu. Ask me to list my favorite games over the last near-three decades, and I'll list games that had stories and characters I've never forgotten.

On a purely intellectual level, computer gaming has taught me many things: how to think "outside the box" to problem-solve; how to adapt to new situations; the difference between challenging an audience and frustrating them; and the wonderful experience of immersing myself in another world. Doing so is not only fun, but relieves stress and cheers me up. Many games let me explore fantastic places (right now, I'm touring post-apocalyptic Boston in Fallout 4, for example, and I'll never forget touring Neuschwanstein castle in Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within or creeping around nighttime Los Angeles in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines).

So for these reasons and many others, computer gaming has been a major, and positive, part of shaping my worldview. Like great books and films, computer games can be inspirational, and to my mind, the more stories we have in the world, the better! (less)

They were ordinary country farmers but there is something so odd about the way each of my great-aunts and uncles turned out that I cannot help but feel there was something bizarre in their upbringing. I've got a theory, and I must say, I'm glad they are all deceased so they'll never know what it is. It's not pretty.(less)

This would make a great "haunted October" read!

I thoroughly enjoy this series, and this fourth book is no exception. This time, the Midnight Society deals with a really metaphysically awful being that uses the spirits of recently deceased humans to b

This is actually the first Michael Chabon book I've read. It's a stunner. Maybe my only complaint is that it's just a touch long-winded, but that's a little like complaining that someone put too much ice cream on your apple pie. ...more

Wow, I was thrilled to discover that the sequel to Alien Awakening was terrific! Actually, it was even better than the first book, perhaps because it was a more substantial read with greater excitement and character development.

“In my experience, people who want to keep their painful injuries are using them as a crutch. They’re hiding from something.”
Christina Harlin, Possessed

“I am a woman of very few layers, and most of them are selfish and mean. My parents tried to make me a good girl, but I just wasn’t having it.”

Topics Mentioning This Author

“Since I was a very young thing, others have told me that what I think, and the things I like, and the ideas I have, are bad. This has always been very puzzling to me. I understand in theory what the problem is, but in practice? I’m not compelled to change my ways.”
Christina Harlin, Deck of Cards

“She sensed her own power to enslave him. He would come willingly enough. No filthy atheistic beliefs she held were strong enough to douse what was crackling in the brief space between them. It would satisfy her on a hundred levels, to bring him to his knees.”
Christina Harlin, Never Alone

“I am a woman of very few layers, and most of them are selfish and mean. My parents tried to make me a good girl, but I just wasn’t having it.”
Christina Harlin, Deck of Cards

“Pastor Cooper might have called my trip to St. Louis a “journey to testify in the Lord’s name” but the Lord sure wasn’t very helpful.”
Christina Harlin

“There’s a little angel on one of my shoulders saying that this is a wicked thing to do. Then there’s a little devil on my other shoulder, and she looks a lot like you.”
