It's been a long road to this moment. I started writing about Dr. Janet Watson and covert agent Sara Holmes four years ago. An experiment, I told myself. Three chapters later, I knew I couldn't stop until I finished Janet's story. She's stubborn, smart, loyal, brave, and did I mention stubborn? This is a woman who has lost everything in the USA's New Civil War--her career, her parents, her beloved Angela--but she refuses to give up. I am so happy to share her with you all.

I am delighted to report that my novel OTHER THAN HONORABLE, aka Not!Sherlock, has sold to Harper Voyager in a two-book deal. The tentative release date is Summer 2018, with the sequel coming out the following year. Here is the announcement in Publishers Marketplace:

Claire O'Dell's OTHER THAN HONORABLE, in which Dr. Janet Watson and FBI Agent Sara Holmes, two black and LGBTQA women, must discover who is murdering veterans from America's New Civil War using espionage, advanced technology, and deduction, to Amber Oliver at Harper Voyager, for publication in Summer 2018, by Amanda Rutter (World Rights).

The novel first went out on submission at the end of February last year. After one rewrite request, two phone calls with two different editors, and a lot of anxious waiting, the offer came through last week. (But I had to wait for the go-ahead before I said anything in public.)

And now I have deadlines. Edits are due in May. An outline for the sequel, which I've tenatively named Separation from Service, is due September. And given recent horrible events, I need to rework the political backstory.

I am both excited and daunted.

It's been way too long since I last posted an update here. Since then, my Kickstarter reached its goal, I commissioned artwork for the cover AND the interior from Jessica Shirley, and I am now sending out print and ecopies of the story. Nocturnall is now ready for pre-order, with a publication date of December 1st.

That's not all!

I have also published my geek girl story, aka, The Ghost Dragon's Daughter, with spiffy artwork from Sarah Schumann.

And now I need to take a nap. :)

My Kickstarter for Nocturnall has four more days to run. The project is now 72% funded, which means I have a good shot at reaching my target goal.

Which is important, because Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing deal.

As some of you know, the third book in my River of Souls trilogy is coming out in paperback this October. This is a milestone for me and my series, so I'm celebrating with a story that is a coda to the books.

Nocturnall takes place thirty-five years after the end of Allegiance, with a much older Ilse and Raul. Pledges from this campaign will pay for custom cover art, copyediting, a limited print edition, and e-book production.
