I am working on another idea for a book, also set in Mughal times but unrelated to the first one. I don't want to give too much away. I did write an epilogue for Jalendu but decided not to include it but to end it on an emotional high.

I am also very happy that an Indian guy likes Jalendu. I have spent a lot of time travelling in India, mainly in the north, but I wonder how Indian readers would appreciate it. I am sure there must be some mistakes.(less)

“What is the shape of a miracle? Is it slender, compact, able to fit, like a silver bead, within the palm of your hand? So dense, so deeply concentrated, that it carries an entire universe inside its smooth, brittle shell? Or is it fluid, ephemeral, an invisible substance that pours out over the moment, releasing upon its subjects a whiff of the sublime, transforming them, man and child and thing, forever?”
Michael Golding, Benjamin's Gift

“As Nouri entered the sacred space, he could feel his breath catch and a shiver run down his spine. The floor was lined with fine woven carpets, the walls were graced with filigreed windows, and the dome—which spread out over their heads—was richly painted with flowers and leaves and suns and moons and stars. But what thrilled Nouri the most was the fact that wherever he looked—on the walls—on the doors—on the frieze that ran in a circle beneath the dome—were the most exquisitely calligraphed words.”
Michael Golding, A Poet of the Invisible World
