Mirza Abu Zafar Sirajuddin Muhammad Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last emperor of India and a member of the Mughal Timurid dynasty. He became the successor to his father, Akbar II with his death on 28 September 1837. He used Zafar, (translation: victory) a part of his name.

He was one of the great Urdu poets of his time and a disciple of famous Urdu poets Shaikh Ibrahim Zauq and Mirza Ghalib. Four of Zafar's poetry collections were published prior to the War of Independence 1857, when much of his unpublished poetry was lost. After the Rebellion, he was exiled to Burma.
