A native of British Columbia, Malcolm’s interests are diverse: Working with information technologies, pursuing applied research in geographic fields, and delving into character-driven stories. The multifaceted life experiences of this science fiction aficionado are evident in the stories he writes, where balancing the hard and the soft sides of the genre are of utmost importance.

His first published novel, “Waves of Reprisal”, is hopefully the first of many to come. Indeed, ideas for both stand-alone and series science fiction have gestated inside his consciousness for many years. It’s time to let keyboard-tied fingers crystallize those ideas into prose.

The challenges of writing my first sequel

Long time, no post. Now that I’ve taken enough of a break from writing, the narrative itch has returned to my fingers. Or is the itch more forceful in my psyche?

Bent on redemption, a certain lone wolf returns in the sequel

No matter. What I want to impart in this blog post is my initial thoughts and feelings on writing a sequel, namely the sequel to my first novel, Waves of Reprisal.

Apocalypse Whenever: Sept Giveaway: Waves of Reprisal by Malcolm Little 14 53 Oct 05, 2015 05:14AM
“Even though sugar was very expensive, people consumed it till their teeth turned black, and if their teeth didn't turn black naturally, they blackened them artificially to show how wealthy and marvelously self-indulgent they were.”
Bill Bryson, At Home: A Short History of Private Life

Lao Tzu
“The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long.”
Lao Tzu, Te-Tao Ching

Jean-Luc Picard
“The road from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is very much shorter than we think.”
Jean-Luc Picard

Arthur C. Clarke
“Whether we are based on carbon or on silicon makes no fundamental difference; we should each be treated with appropriate respect.”
Arthur C. Clarke, 2010: Odyssey Two

“Marriage was an economic institution in which you were given a partnership for life in terms of children and social status and succession and companionship. But now we want our partner to still give us all these things, but in addition I want you to be my best friend and my trusted confidant and my passionate lover to boot, and we live twice as long. So we come to one person, and we basically are asking them to give us what once an entire village used to provide: Give me belonging, give me identity, give me continuity, but give me transcendence and mystery and awe all in one. Give me comfort, give me edge. Give me novelty, give me familiarity. Give me predictability, give me surprise. And we think it’s a given, and toys and lingerie are going to save us with that. Ideally, though, we’re lucky, and we find our soul mate and enjoy that life-changing mother lode of happiness. But a soul mate is a very hard thing to find.”
Aziz Ansari, Modern Romance
