On the Write Track
Wow, it feels good to actually be making some headway with this writing gig. I mean, I've been wanting to have something concrete, something printed and bound that I could flick between my fingers for years now - that I created! And that dream has finally become a reality with the publishing of my first short play 'The Chicken and the Egg'.
In December last year (2014) I was gifted a book of short stories by Stephen King as a secret Santa present from work, and found myself, at the time, wondering when I would ever get a chance to read a book of short stories. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn't respect the form, but having a become a first time father only a month previous I found it difficult to find time to reach the kettle before the steam had disappeared and the water had turned luke-warm. But that book sat taunting me on my shelf, wishing to be read.
Skip ahead and 5 months later I began reading Mr King's 'Everything's Eventual', and boy was I blown away. I've never been a huge reader or creator of short stories, but the diversity in style and the way that you can become drawn in by a tale that stands as only a fraction of a novel was an artform that shone before my eyes.
Thus began my work.
I am aware that there are thousands of writers slugging away day by day trying to mark a dent in the plans that they have created for their fictional tales, so I doubt I'm not much different. But in the few months that I've actually been investing time into the creation of the ideas that have laid dormant in my mind for years I have been incredibly blessed to already surround myself with some remarkable talent and inspiration which draws me forward.
