Attitude. June 26

I want to remind you today to…Choose the right attitude. Come into work with a pleasant demeanor. Shift the atmosphere for the better. Watch for ways on how you can be a blessing to others. And watch what you say and what you do. Let me remind you, when people like you, they want to work with you and that favor will open doors and connectors will want to elevate you.

I recall a certain celebrity who is not casted for movies anymore and the supposed reason is because she is difficult to work with.

I don't want to be that person. I want to stay positive and maintain those connections and be slow to burn any bridges, apologizing (even if it's not my fault), keeping the peace and staying humble.

I was watching the movie, The Internship (2013), and the deciding vote to approve Billy and Nick for the job opportunity was this one question:

Lyle: Our final judgment is always based on the layover test, right? 'Who would you rather be stuck next to at an airport bar for a six-hour delay?'

It's important to me that I work well with others, that I make everyone feel good in my presence and I purposely bring the light and keep the situation calm. I know it helps others and it is also in the best interest for myself to remain professional and steady in the public eye.

Just a suggestion to you.

If you need prayer for anything, let me know. I would love to pray for you.

On the Beat. July 3

I was watching the movie, The Company (2003) and the story follows along a ballet company in Chicago.

I was mesmerized by the talent and athleticism of each dancer. The ballerinas were pros, practicing and rehearsing for weeks for this one performance. But what really intrigued me was that the dancer landed exactly – precisely – directly - on the beat of the music. They didn't jump one second before or after, but exactly on cue. They knew the song that well, clearly memorizing the routine and performing by heart.

I thought about God's timing. As these dancers know the routine, God knows our story. He has my life memorized like a book, knowing exactly what page, what chapter and what point I am on in my life. And He appears on cue. He knows when to show up. God is not one second too early or one second too late. He knows at just the right time, at just the right place, with just the right person and just the right experience to give my story a happy ending.

I trust God's timing. He knows what is the very best for me. I just need to watch in awe of His precision and accuracy and grace in every little thing that happens in my life. Because truly I am mesmerized by His wonders!

Ecclesiastes 3:1: There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—

Isaiah 60:22: At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.

If you need prayer for anything, let me know. I would love to pray for you!

Glory Days. August 5

I wanted to share a passage from the Book "Glory Days" by Max Lucado:

"You are
God's child
Christ's friend
a member of Christ's body
a saint
redeemed and forgiven of all your sins
complete in Christ, lacking in nothing
free from condemnation
God's coworker
seated with Christ in the heavenly realm
God's workmanship
a citizen of heaven
adopted into God's family
born of God, and the evil one cannot touch you

When the devil draws near, stand against him. "What are you doing here? I am dead to you!" Give him no quarter. Don't take his lies. Don't stand for his accusations. Don't cower at his attacks. When he dredges up your past mistakes, tell him whose you are. He knows who you are. He just hopes that you don't or that you will forget. So, prove to him that you know and remember. Tell him:

"I have been brought with a price. I belong to God." (1 Cor. 6:20)

"I have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind." (2 Tim. 1:7)

"I cannot be separated from the love of God." (Rom. 8:35)

"I can find grace and mercy at the time of need." (Heb. 4:16)

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Phil. 4:13)

Promised Land people think like this. They walk with a reverent swagger. They live out their inheritance. They show the devil the new name on their spiritual passport."

Every detail. August 19

I was scrolling through Facebook and my entire list of friends showed up on the screen, showing me specific names and faces. And even though some of these people I have never met in person, God knows each and every detail about every single person! God knows all about Mary's situation. He knows Frank's details. He understands Randy's struggle and is speaking wisdom to Heather right now. It is so amazing how specific and personal God is!

Here are some verses to remind you about God's undivided attention in our lives!

“…the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” – Luke 12:7

“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.” – Psalm 139:2

“You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.” – Psalm 56:8

Never forget, you are not just a name and a photo to God. He knows all about you and is surrounding you with his undeniable presence and his unconditional love. Right now, He is solving the many questions you have and working in the many details in your life.

If you need prayer, let me know. I would love to pray for you!

Prayer. Sept. 23

I am reading through the Christian Nonfiction Book:
"Jesus with Dirty Feet"
by: Don Everts

And I read this chapter on Prayer. I wanted to share my favorite quotes from that chapter:

"Tiny humans and the "I Am" (whose bountiful largess dwarfs entire galaxies with a mere eyelash) come together!

Broken humans and a holy and perfect God talking.

According to Jesus, it's a conversation that's enjoyable, satisfying, comfortable and, yes, quite possible.

When you pray, be intimate.

Pray to your Father who is sitting in your room with you where you are praying.

Prayer is no rare, fancy - worded performance. It's a daily family conversation. It's simple.

Prayer is not an attempt to impress. It is a time to finally relax and be honest.

It is a real child interacting with the real Father.

Whether said while kneeling beside a bed, walking along a street, driving on the freeway or taking a morning shower, prayer is to be genuine.

Sometimes prayers end with a little word: "Amen." That tiny word holds a big meaning: So Be It! Let It Be So! Make It So!

Prayer accomplishes. Prayer is the ridiculous being born. Like moving Mount Everest with a word."

If you need prayer, let me know. I would love to pray for you!

The heart knows. Nov. 11

Has this ever happened to you?

I was driving to Panera and I completely forgot which area of the plaza it was on. But it was like, even though my mind forgot, my subconscious kicked in. My hands started driving, turning, pulling into the parking lot all from memory. My heart knew what my mind forgot.

I feel like that is a good imagery in trusting the Lord. I may forget the route. I may not remember what step to take or I may feel
insecure about what I am doing… but no matter what, I know that God loves me, that God is with me and that God is going to
help me.

If you are having a moment of confusion, let me help bring some clarity to your spirit:

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. (Psalm 112:7, ESV)

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act. (Psalm 37:5, ESV)

For the word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does. (Psalm 33:4, NIV)

If you need prayer for anything, let me know. I would love to pray for you!

Paint Colors. Nov. 20

Do you notice how certain movies have a specific look and feel?

Like, I can tell when I'm watching a Tim Burton movie. He seems to add an element of animation and surprise with a hint of darkness. Or the Twilight Saga with the off-white filter and overly-dramatic tone. Or even the Harry Potter Series with the gold colors, the textures, the vibrancy of the story. Or how about a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie which can bring such a spectacular holiday setting. What movie do you think of... one where the scenes visually stand out among other movies?

I like studying the paint colors, the brush strokes as I appreciate movies as a work of art.

I would question you. What colors are on the canvas of your life? What brush strokes are you using to represent yourself to the world? Are you like me and you use bright, stunning, yellow tints and positive affirmations? Or do you keep things calmer, more baby blue… or do you paint with a dark green, a more down to earth, realistic tone?

Whatever brush stroke you use, I hope you are authentically… you. I hope you use colors to paint your masterpiece in life with radiance, tones, textures that reflect your passion and highlight your persona. Because something brilliantly unique is often remembered and of course, highly praised.

If you need prayer for anything, let me know. I would love to pray over you!

A CROWN OF CHAINS: BOOK OF THE MONTH

I wanted to spotlight A Crown of Chains by Erin Phillips as my pick for the Book of the Month!

A Crown of Chains is a YA fantasy retelling of the Biblical story of Queen Esther, with fresh twists based on the original context in this timeless tale of miracles in the midst of forgotten faith.

Genre: Upper YA Fantasy Retelling

Pages: 430

What makes this book different from those in its genre? The Author Erin Phillips has this to say, “When compared to other retellings of Esther, you'll find A Crown of Chains doesn't shy away from or change the realities of Esther's story, addressing the sexual assault in her story with compassion and appropriateness for teens. It is also definitely a page-turner with a heart-pounding pace that will keep you on the edge of your seat with political intrigue, forbidden romance, and dire stakes!”

Me: "What do you hope your readers will gain from reading your book?”

Erin: “Hope and comfort, to see that God never abandons us, even when we have forgotten Him, and that He is able to take even the most evil deeds of man and use them to do great good. Even in the darkness, there is always light, if only a candle in a window.”

A quote from the book: "If death is all that awaits me, then I won’t waste it."

What readers are saying about A Crown of Chains:

“I cannot stop thinking about this book! Brilliant and imaginative, A Crown of Chains offers a fresh take on the Biblical story of Esther, infusing the fantastical with an unmistakable sense of purpose. Erin Phillips is a brave voice in the YA genre. I’ll be counting down the days until her next release.” -Caroline George, author of Dearest Josephine and The Summer We Forgot (HarperCollins)

“A Crown of Chains by Erin Phillips left me speechless. There were times I had to put this thought-provoking book down just to process my emotions, only to pick it back up again, unable to stay away from the story for long. Roxana’s tale is one of heartbreak and intrigue, despair and hope. Despite knowing the familiar story of Esther, I still found myself surprised by this fresh and imaginative take on the Biblical narrative. Fans of Kiera Cass and Tosca Lee will rejoice over this breakout novel that inspires readers to cling to faith even in the darkest of times.” — Sara Ella, award-winning author of the Unblemished trilogy, Coral, and The Wonderland Trials

The Long Game. Nov. 25

I want to encourage you today to keep the Long Game in mind. Sometimes we can get so caught up over the Short Game, especially for people like me who are involved in Ministry work. Trust me, there are always people who need prayer. I sometimes feel bombarded by the needs of others. But the Long Game - keeping the bigger picture in perspective - will teach me that I need a break every now and then. I can turn my phone off. I can understand the importance of rest.

Don't be too stressed about the here and now. Take a step back and see
this moment from the lens of eternity.

I want to share a passage from my upcoming Inspirational Fiction book tentatively called, "The Tune to the Top":

---------------------------------------

“There’s a short game and a long game,” Jonathan explains.

“Oh? I thought there was just one racing game…” I look confused.

“Let me explain it to you.” He is serious in his tone. “If you go too fast too quickly, you’ll crash and burn. But if you take it easy and pace yourself…” The screen is loading so Jonathan continues. “You’ll end up winning. Keep the long game in mind. It’s like life you see.”

The screen appears with the countdown timer. “It’s not about taking the lead. It’s about winning.”

“Isn’t that the same thing?” I ask.

“No,” Jonathan states as the checkered flag is down and all the cars speed together but not without his commentary to me. “Don’t hold down the gas pedal. That’s right. Release around the turns. Good. It’s okay if I pass you. That doesn’t mean you speed up. If you stay in your lane and if you play your own game and remember that you are not in a
competition with anyone else is when you will see…that’s it!”

My virtual car whizzes past just as his virtual corvette dives right into
the water."

Steady. Dec. 2

There is no denying it, we live in an unsteady time. Job security isn’t always a sure thing. The price of gas increases. Rent prices change. And my emotions can alter to and fro like the wind. I can wake up in a good mood and then get caught in rush hour traffic and suddenly my countenance changes. Things are topsy-turvy in this complicated world and there are so many factors I cannot control. Fortunately for me and for you too, we can find stability and our security in Jesus Christ. He is the rock and stronghold of our faith and He can help get us through these trying times.

Psalm 18:2: The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Isaiah 26:4: Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

Psalm 62:2: He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

If you need prayer for anything, let me know. i would love to pray for you.
