I loved your debut novel 'Oil and Marble: A Novel of Leonardo and Michelangelo', and have now started your second novel 'Raphael, Painter in Rome'. I have two questions for you as outlined below: 1. Are these two novels of yours set in Renaissance Italy stand alone novels or are these part of perhaps a series set in this time period? 2. Do you have any plans for upcoming novels? Sorry it took me 300 years (or 7 months) to see this question. It was lost in the insanity of Goodreads! Anyway, they are totally stand-alone books -- written, obviously in very different styles -- but I AM obsessed with the Italian Renaissance, so... I will be shocked if I don't return... However, my next novel (which I'm working on right now) is art historical fiction, but it is NOT set during the Italian Renaissance -- it's set during another art historical period about which I am personally obsessed. Not spilling any beans about it yet tho! These things take a while to simmer. I hope you ended up enjoying Raphael :) and happy reading out there!(less)

I've long been an admirer of Raphael's work, but everything I read about him made him sound so boring -- he's so nice, he's so charming, he's so PERFECT -- so I assumed there wasn't a good story there... Then, it dawned on me: NO ONE IS THAT PERFECT... History, perhaps, wants us to believe he was this paragon of goodness, but reality tells us differently: every human and EVERY artist struggles and hurts and strives and wins and fails... LIFE is a struggle... Remembering that pushed me to start looking more closely at Raphael's drawings and life to find the true humanity in him, instead of some artist who is as perfect as his pictures... and BOY did I find a thrilling story...

Stephanie Storey answered Ana Samantha's question: Is there a translation to spanish? Hi Ana, there IS a Spanish translation of Oil and Marble, it's called Leonardo y Miguel Ángel and it was published by Pàmies. There is not a Spanish translation of Raphael at this time! Maybe soon :)
