Born in Monterey, I’m a sixth generation Californian. I graduated from Jesuit Santa Clara University with a degree in biology and a passion for history. At the University of Chicago, I completed a Masters in History of Science and Medicine and spent a year on the Ph.D.

I’ve spent twenty years in high tech; first at Apple, which hired people from diverse backgrounds, and after that at industry leaders like Oracle, Sun, and Cisco. I worked on an MBA, and have been certified in Six Sigma, a rigorous method for process excellence designed to achieve quality through statistical tools, metrics, and analysis. Six Sigma is used by most Fortune 500 companies, and was developed by Motorola and General Electric in the 1980s and pioneers such as Dr. W. Born in Monterey, I’m a sixth generation Californian. I completed a post-graduate course in research at Duke University Medicine’s world renown Center for Spirituality, Theology & Health, founded by brilliant and compassionate healer, Dr. Harold Koenig.

My training in the scientific method, quality, analysis, and research are valuable tools to help ground the discussion in Healing Intelligence (IQ). There’s a scientific basis for the role of spirituality, and a field of medicine that supports it.

Like most people, I wanted to know how to get and stay healthy. There are a number of best practices. Stress is responsible for 85-92% of visits to the doctor's office, a statistic I traced back to the Christmas 1980 issue of New England Journal of Medicine. Yet how do we avoid or solve for stress with our crazy lives?

The book lays out the evidence and what the experts say about healing and maintaining health. The book is concise and straightforward yet detailed with helpful resources.
