I'm a heavy plotter and I spend a lot of time working out my characters and plot before I begin actually writing a story. And once I do start writing, I still keep revising my planning documents - I always want it to be accurate to the story path.

If you ask writers who've completed books whether or not they've plotted their stories, you might find a fairly even split between those who do and those who don't. But if you ask that question of people who got stuck writing and abandoned their stories, most of them will say they had a loose plot in their head.

So if someone who's starting out writing asks me about planning their story, my strong advice to them is to always plot it all out. Once you've started writing and get stuck, it's much harder to plot at that point than it is to work things out ahead of time.(less)

Breach Point is my first book, but I've written over ten screenplays (sold one of them - still in development) and since every new character, location, prop, effect, and piece of music in a movie script has a budget associated with it, that's something that always has to be considered - often above the needs of a story. So writing a novel was very freeing in that respect.(less)

Steve Spatucci My book Breach Point comes out today. After twenty-one months of preparation, I’m really excited that it’s finally available. Links to buy are at the bottom of this message.

As the book’s publisher, I can tell you that I’ve worked for months to make sure that the end result is a solid, professional product. I designed the cover and laid out the interior myself (I’ve worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for over twenty years), brought a professional editor as well a proofreader onto the project, selected the best paper stock for the covers and the interiors, purchased beautiful and highly readable fonts, designed the interior layout with custom chapter headings and scene break graphics, formatted the eBook files, and did whatever else needed to be done to make sure the end result was as polished as it could be. I truly could not be more proud of the finished product.

As the book’s author, I can say that I’ve been working on story for over ten years, first writing it as a screenplay (one that didn’t sell, which now seems fortuitous), then adapting it into a novel. I researched the history of the New Jersey shore, incorporating plenty of real world details into the story – including many elements from the Brigantine Castle, the real inspiration for the haunted attraction in my story. I wrote one chapter per week, publishing on my own blog as well as on Wattpad. I listened to feedback from thousands of Wattpad readers (as of this writing, Breach Point has over 89,000 reads on the site as well as having been selected as a Featured Story and included in three movie promotions), working and reworking each chapter to make the reading experience as smooth and enjoyable as it could be – and sweating every word along the way. Many of those early readers had some really nice things to say about the book as well. When the original serialized story was finished and I started working on the published version, I added an all new Epilogue, a Prologue that takes place in the 1980s, and a Bonus Material section with background information on the writing of the story, my process, pages from the original screenplay, cover development, concept art, and more. So if you’re one of those Wattpad readers who’s already read the book – you still haven’t seen everything!

Creepy characters, mysterious locations, twists, revelations, and more than a touch of romance – Breach Point is full of that kind of stuff. If that sounds like a book you might want to read, please considering buying either an eBook or trade paperback. And if you already own Breach Point, please consider helping to promote the book with a review on Amazon or Goodreads, a blog post, a share on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, a recommendation – any kind of publicity, as long as it’s sincere, would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Steve Spatucci My book Breach Point comes out this Wednesday, and though the book will remain on Wattpad for free, the published version has some additional material not found in the Wattpad version – and the two forthcoming sequels will not be on Wattpad at all.

Because many Wattpad non-U.S.-based Wattpad readers have said they won't be able to afford the eBook, a system called Pay By Deed will allow readers to perform a good deed in exchange for the Breach Point eBook files. Read more about it here and please share with anyone who you feel might benefit:
