Podcast

I was thrilled to be on the HOUSE OF MYSTERY radio show KCAA 106.5 F.M. Los Angeles, 102.3 F.M. Riverside, 1050 A.M. Palm Springs and on 540 A.M. Salt Lake City. I was interviewed by the amazing hosts Alan R. Warren and David North-Martino about my writing, my writing process and my books. Alan and Dave were fantastic to speak with. They spoke with me for 15 minutes before the broadcast to put me at ease. They maintained a conversational style during the radio show and then we to continued to chat for an hour more after the broadcast ended. It was just plain fun. I had a blast! I hope you give it a listen and enjoy. You can click on the image above to take you to the recorded podcast or CLICK HERE.

#CancelCancelCulture

I’m writing this because for quite many years now I’ve not liked the direction I’ve seen this Nation head, and even the World. And instead of getting better things are getting worse. This trend I’m seeing is CANCEL CULTURE. I can’t stay silent anymore because Oppression grows in silence.

Silence sustains Oppression.

This Cancel Culture would see our history erased and rewritten. The problem with that is you can’t move forward without knowing the good and bad of your past. We don’t grow as individuals from denying the mistakes of our past, and more importantly, learning from those mistakes. People think that AGE equals wisdom. WRONG. I know plenty of people that keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I bet you know quite a few like that too. LEARNING from your mistakes makes you wiser. Age for most people just means they’ve been dumb longer.

Even more concerning is that this trending culture is to shame, harass, bully and belittle others and get them cancelled from their livelihood, all because they have a differing view. We’re already at the point in this country where you are called a racist for having a different opinion on anything. You don’t want mustard on your hamburger. Then you’re racist. If you want Mayo on your hamburger, then you’re definitely racist! (ya know, white).

The greatest thing about this country is having the right to vote, yet people are now getting fired from their jobs because they didn’t vote for the same candidate as others. This is beyond ridiculous.

This is oppression.

I warned about this sort of thing in my book THE HARD BOYS: ALIEN ABDUCTION. The setup here (without getting too graphic) is that our heroes, Ethan and Justin, have been abducted by aliens. Ethan names one of the aliens, SAL (for Sexy Alien Lifeform). “We are from your future. We,” SAL indicated him and his two colleagues, “represent the evolution of humans. Society had become eager to eliminate all labels, all class envy, all prejudices of color, religion, race, and sex. People of singular thinking—determined that the world should bend to their views of what ideals should comprise a society and how the people in that society should act, look and think—exercised their influence over other influential people of an equally narrow mind. So much so, that now what you see before you are the truce of the social war that ensued—a uniform colored, indistinguishable, sexless race. Efficient in execution of task—unencumbered by emotion, desire, envy or gain.”

I wrote this as fiction. And I wrote this in 2016. But we’re on our way to becoming the GRAY ALIENS now.

This CANCEL CULTURE is threatening our freedoms. Antagonism is their only goal. We have enough negativity in our daily lives whether it’s from our jobs or lack thereof. And then pile on a real pandemic situation that we only thought we’d see in movies. But instead, we’re living it. So we don’t need people digging up and searching for even more rancor by trying to invent and inject racial and other issues into the likes of the PEANUTS, The MUPPETS, MR. POTATOE HEAD, DR. SEUSS, and now even THE LOONEY TUNES.

So what’s the answer? We fight back. Don’t take someone’s opinion in the news or social media as truth or right. It’s easy to edit, bend, and distort the facts to their agenda.

So fight back now. We can’t become the GRAY ALIENS. We fight back by not buying into this Cancel Culture. Fight it. Don’t believe it. Don’t support it. Revel in your old movies and shows of past that bring back wonderful childhood memories. Don’t stew in or seek out misery and contempt. The time is now to CANCEL the CANCEL CULTURE before it becomes a barreling train that we won’t be able to stop. So be positive, productive and constructive with your time, don’t be DESTRUCTIVE.

And remember, in the great words of NIGHT RANGER: “You can still ROCK in America!”

#1 New Release

For four years now I've watched many others hit that coveted Orange Banner of BEST SELLER or #1. I have salivated over those banners. Measuring my worth and validity as a writer over a fleeting and what should really be a trivial object. Amazon sales numbers are updated at least hourly so even if you obtain a banner it won't stay forever. Yet, it still gnawed at me that I saw not only seasoned authors, but new authors bragging about getting an ORANGE BANNER on Amazon. I couldn't help but question my writing or marketing skills since I've yet to achieve such a status. After four years, I just reasoned that it's too hard, because any category you put your book in is filled with competition. They're are millions of books out there. BUT LOW AND BEHOLD. Imagine my surprise when I woke up one day and just happened to look at my book on Amazon and then saw...YES...an ORANGE BANNER. It said #1 NEW RELEASE. The rush of the excitement is what I imagine lottery number winners experience when they double check to make sure they are seeing what they think they are seeing. That's what I did. I refreshed the screen to make sure I was right. Then I did a quick screen shot before it disappeared because I had no clue when Amazon put it up there and when their next update would be and I'd be knocked out of that status. So it lasted over a day. Maybe two. Then it went away as I said. Then I woke up to it again, but in another category. So. Yeah. It feels pretty good. Sure, it shouldn't make me feel better as a writer, or as a confirmation that I'm doing something right. But...it DOES! I'll gladly take it. #1 NEW RELEASE!

KERR-POW!

This second installment into the continuing saga of the Dead Camp series does not disappoint. I found out later that this was originally supposed to be part of book one but was split into two by the publisher, so this book does NOT start with a Chapter One. For a moment, I thought my kindle had gone batty, but the publisher didn’t choose to renumber the Chapters so don’t get confused. I won’t blame the author for this. Not in his control. However, I will blame him for this superb tale!!!!Sean Kerr, as in all his stories I have discovered, wields emotion and intrigue like a flexible extension of himself that is fused to his being. This story picks up where the first left off and I love that in continued stories. We find our main character, Eli, the vampire that is most definitely his own worst enemy, infiltrating a concentration camp with his faithful and infatuated cohort, Malachi. This is where Sean Kerr exudes bravery in tackling a volatile and touchy subject matter, and he does so with reverence and grace. Only Sean Kerr could make Death sound like poetry in motion. The author creates characters that you can’t help but care about and those you hate. All because they are unique and full of depth. The descriptions in this book are fluid and pact with powerful imagery. The whole novel is dowsed with so many great lines that it is difficult to pick out my favorite…well…There is one, but I will not Spoil it for other readers.I love that this series is twined with real history and WWII has always been one of my fascinations so it is no wonder how I am drawn to this amazing series. This World War II tale includes Nazis, Ghosts, Demons and truly interesting and unique Vampires. I wouldn’t say this story ends on a cliffhanger exactly because I think of those more like…Oh, the car went off the cliff, will they live? Instead, Kerr handles this expertly by concluding this segment of the story but leaves us wanting more as there is more to the story as is in most cases of life.Treat yourself to this series if you haven’t started it yet and you will come to love this masterful author and storyteller as I have.
