I met Helen Federer at Peasenhall Literary Festival. Helen was a really funny speaker (as you'd expect) and I can recommend Peasenhall Festival as a go to event. Put it on your calendars for next year.

Fifty years ago this month I was working as a mechanic at an oil terminal on the coast of Libya.As I was walking from one maintenance job to another I looked out to sea and saw that the ship that worked in the bay on which the divers lived, had exploded. There was a huge mushroom cloud above the Francis Holmes.Six men were killed in that explosion and many more badly burned. I still think about the accident to this day.To honour the men who died, most of whom were Maltese, I offer my book 'A Horse in the Morning' free to download for a few days.
'A Horse in the Morning' is the memoir of an engineer, teacher, actor, writer and failed astronaut. The stories are funny, dramatic, sometimes mysterious, and told with quirky British understatement.

'Roger Ley's collection of memoirs is like a series of short stories, all self-contained, as if one is looking through a snapshot album covering seven decades. Some of these stories have already been published in magazines such as The Oldie, Readers' Digest and Best of British. The stories are told with wit, charm and a self-deprecating humour - very British. I particularly enjoyed the childhood stories (my brother also manufactured explosives) and the more recent episodes. The book is well-structured, eminently readable and I love the way it goes full circle, beginning (more-or-less) and ending with the author's TV/film/showbiz experiences.'

Our author has been very, VERY creative in THIS one, and the result is STUNNING! There are surprises aplenty, both in character development AND plot development - none of which I saw coming!! I won’t spoil the soup by giving any away, but I will say without reservation, brace yourself, you’re in for a wildly entertaining ride - one that I would not have missed for the world! I was so engaged, SO enthralled, so completely immersed in this story! MY reality be dammed! Dinner … pffft! Let them eat take out! There was NO WAY I was stopping! The chef’s kiss … the narration was also perfect, absolutely PERFECT and on point at every juncture! “Harry Lampeter and the Unholy Alliance” is one heck of a marvelous satirical stunner - I’m still smiling from ear to ear at the thought of what I just listened to, and dear author if you’re listening, more, pretty, pretty please! This one … easily … FIVE stunning stars across all categories!!!

July is a nice month in the veg garden and I try to stay away from my computer and take a rest from writing.
