My Preparation for a Microdiscectomy and Laminectomy – L5/S1 Lumbar Spine

[I posted this on the Slowtwitch.com Triathlon Forum after I had back surgery in July 2020]

Preparing for a Microdiscectomy and Laminectomy – L5/S1 Lumbar Spine

I wanted to start a thread about “preparing for a microdiscectomy and laminectomy” in the hope it would help a lot of you who have made a decision to have the procedure. And I also wanted to give an overview of immediate life after microdiscectomy surgery based on the specific instructions I was given by my surgeon. And also give readers...

Extract from My Book: “Your New Prime”. BRAINPOWER TIP #6: CONNECT!

BRAINPOWER TIP #6: CONNECT

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

JIM ROHN

Youve heard it before: man is a social animal. And its the truth. We like to think were independent, up-by the bootstraps, self-reliant John Wayne types, never asking for a free lunch. But it aint so: not one of us would have made it much past a few hours old without all kinds of help from the adults around us. Unlike, say, sharks, whose mothers swim blithely away after giving birth,...

Breca New Zealand SwimRun Championships – Craig Cooper.

Relive ‘Breca New Zealand SwimRun Championships.’

#SwimRun is a new adventure racing format that takes you on anything from a 20-70km course that usually involves anywhere from 20-40 transitions between alternating sections of #swimming and #trailrunning. The events are huge in Europe but there are only a handful in the USA (East coast) – one event in Australia a year – and two in New Zealand. The cool thing about them is that they are usually held in spectacular natural locations that in...

Bahamian Great Hammerheads

We first heard about the Great Hammerheads in Bimini when I was filming the TV show in the Bahamas. They weren’t there at the time given that they only migrate through the Bimini area for Jan and Feb each year. So this year we flew back down especially to dive with them which was awesome.

Here’s Maria breaking the first rule of Hammerhead diving – “never turn your back on the Hammerhead :-))”

Here’s Maria breaking the second rule of Hammerhead diving – “never stray from the pack”. This was...

Spartan World Championships – Lake Tahoe – Sept 29, 2018

14+ miles and 5,000+ft of elevation had everybody walking a lot. Finished 6th in age group (55-59).

In and out of 39 degree snow making lakes at 9,100 ft. They make you wear PFD’s in case you react badly to the cold.

65 mile an hour winds on exiting the swim got you dry (but not warm) pretty quickly.

Even the bears came out to watch.

Did some podcast interviews while I was there.

And swung around a lot.
