Gaia B. Amman (they/them) is a Ph.D. molecular oncologist turned chart-topping author of The Italian Saga. Born and raised in the dichotomy of Northern Italy’s sensuality and rigid traditions, Gaia’s work explores the coming-of-gender journey with empathy, grit, and 80s and 90s nostalgia.

Their debut volume, An Italian Adventure, is a 5-star Readers’ Choice winner and a Kirkus-featured “astute and affecting” fictionalized memoir. Drawing from personal experience and a former career as a tenured professor and Nature-published researcher, Gaia blends scientific precision with soul and spice to discuss socially relevant topics with humor and heart. Whether navigating the 1990 World Cup or the complexities of love and nonbinary identity, Gaia’s

Most of my friends were fictional…I escaped daily within the pages of books where I felt like I belonged a lot more than with real people and when I could not sleep at night (quite often) I wrote pages over pages of rants, poetry and short stories. I won a couple of short story competitions as a teenager, but then I pretty much stopped writing in college because I was just, oh so busy with school.

I finally resumed writing in 2010 and became obsessed with it once more resulting in the Italian Saga series ^_^ The first book of the series (An Italian Adventure) was published on November 1st 2015 followed by book 2 (Out of the Nest, January 30 2016) and I am currently editing book 3, which I'm hoping to release at the beginning of May ^_^

The overwhelming positive response of my readers was the best thing to ever happen to me, what better way to connect with other bibliophiles than through books? <3(less)

That is such a hard question! For M/F I really liked the chemistry between Inej and Kaz in Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom. For M/M Baz and Simon in Carry On, and for F/F (actually trans M to F) I really liked Amanita and Nomi in Sense 8 <3

I am all for diversity in fiction and enjoy love stories that surprise me.

Beautifully written. Engaging and easy to read, yet almost lyrical in parts. The writing really drew me in. I loved how the main character felt grounded and...healthy, focused. The story felt believable and relatable, without the hyperboles and trope ...more

“Life goes on, whether you like it or not. I just wished it could lurch forward. Time is the best doctor, they say, and that’s bullshit, because from certain pains you can never heal. They keep screaming inside of you till eventually you get used to the noise and can hear again the life outside, but they are always there, aching, clawing at your soul.”
Gaia B. Amman, Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time

“Depression is a physical illness, like bleeding from a wound that won’t close. You cannot fix it, it doesn’t heal.”
Gaia B. Amman, Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time

“Everything seemed less frightening with music, even more so with music I knew by heart. It forced a familiar perspective on the scary unknown that was about to happen.”
Gaia B. Amman, Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time

“l’amore era un errore pericoloso e la sua complice, la speranza, un’illusione insidiosa. E”
Khaled Hosseini, Mille splendidi soli

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
Oscar Wilde

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Yes, I was scared, vulnerable, and fragile and lived in books more than real life. Yet there was nothing Mom could do to make things easier for me, just worse by grounding me for life at the slightest hint of truth. Why? Because in spite of what she said she did not trust me or, to put it in her words, I did not know what was good for me.
Being a teenager sucks! I might as well have been in prison.”
Gaia B. Amman, Sex-O-S: The Tragicomic Adventure of an Italian Surviving the First Time

“He was interested in owning my mystery, not solving it.”
