New Book on Goodreads

I finally got my new post apoc book on goodreads. It is called Suffer The Little Children and is the first sequel to No One Left Behind. It starts out with the "pledge of allegiance" to the new nation of Al-Unidos.

Take the pledge along with all the other residents of the new nation:

Suffer the Little Children "I declare my dependence on the collective and devote myself to the Commonwealth of Al-Unidos, the Rainbow State of Acceptance, Tolerance, and Inclusion. I embrace Diversity and Love for all organisms, decrying Hate in thought, word, and deed. This is my pledge before Mother Earth."

We live in a country where different states talk about splitting up or seceding from the Union on a regular basis. The Al-Unidos Chronicles explore that proposition in a world of reality. Follow the terrifying exploits of a tightly knit community of family and friends determined to survive in such a post apocalyptic world. California, Oregon, and Washington's secession from the United States of America is just the beginning. After withdrawing, they must begin the difficult work of creating their progressive utopia. Live the adventure along with The Chief, his good friend Cal, Marshal Christie, Dean and Janelle, and all the other "regular people" who are just trying to make a life in this new reality. Learn and embrace Al-Unidos' enlightened philosophy of inclusion and tolerance.

Familiar Characters in New Book

I just added a new blog post. Concerning "No One Left Behind," I especially enjoyed about writing this story is selecting the names of characters. While stressing this is a fictional work about fictional people, I often borrowed the names and perhaps one or two character traits from friends and relations. Perhaps if any of them ever pick up the book and read it, they will recognize a small chunk of themselves.

New Website

am so excited! Thanks to my friend Eric at MyBoringChannel.com, I have been creating a new website to showcase my books and writing. Eric is an expert on WordPress and a very patient teacher.
The site is still building, but it is up and running now. You can find it at www.daveperrybooks.com. I have a new email address that is dave@daveperrybooks.com. Check it out and let me know what you think.
ALSO, I wrote my first real blog because the new site has a blogging page. See http://wp.me/p97L8W-5e to read it.
Please pass this on to your friends. It would be great if everyone who follows my page passes this on to one person. That could give me a huge boost since I am getting ready to announce my next book.
Everyone have a GREAT labor Day!

An Okie Engineer

Hi Everyone,
This is a quick note to let you know that we are going to release my dad's memoirs soon. He called it:
"The Life and Times of an Okie Engineer - From slide rule to terabyte".
We are doing the second review right now. Here is the Amazon book description.
Where would you end up if your life exceeded eight decades? Imagine that you began in a tarpaper shack in the depression dustbowl and spent your life traveling the world, building megaprojects on two continents. Follow the life of this homeless okie, traveling with his parents in the 1930s to a new, golden life in California, the promised land. Follow his adventure through the Navy. Then watch him be the first in his family to graduate university. Pick up this saga and you won't put it down until the last page.
Fair winds and following seas. -Dave

Book Excerpt

I am well over halfway through writing "The Chief."
Here is an excerpt:

"Prepping—preparing for the Apocalypse—is not a common endeavor in southern California. At least if it was, it was not a popular topic one discussed with one’s neighbors and country club associates. Self-reliance and hardy individualism, however, were quite usual for those who grew up in the desert region around the Salton Sea. Walter’s family lived here for generations. His grandfather settled here after coming home from the Pacific campaign in World War II. His son, Walter’s dad, returned after serving with the Marines in Korea. Walter was an Army medivac pilot in Vietnam."

Presidential History

An idea popped into my head the other day so I started writing it down. In my life, I can remember one quote from most presidents. I won't say that they define their presidency. . . well . . . maybe I will now that I think about it. Here is what I came up with:

“Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”

Johnson – nothing stands out.

“I am not a crook.”

Ford – nothing stands out.

“I have lusted in my heart.”

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall!”

“Read my lips, no new taxes.”

“I did not have sex with that woman.”

“Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward, and freedom will be defended.” (okay, I looked that one up because I couldn’t remember the entire quote)

“If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”

“Make America great again.” OR "Fake news." This one still has time to run so it may change.

Can you name them!

Reviews, Ratings, and Stars

Reviews, Ratings, and Stars are the curse and the blessing of independent authors. I always used to ignore the little notes from Amazon to provide a review when I purchased a product or read a book. No more since I became an author. They are the lifeblood of the independent author. And it takes little more than 30 seconds.
Just click the number of stars and write " One Two Three Four Five words." That's it.
It might take a whole minute if you do it on Goodreads AND Amazon.

If you would like to be a reviewer for one of my novels or short stories send me a message so we can make it happen! Thanks.

Dave

What is the genre?

I have a question for people that read and/or write a lot more than I do. What is the genre of my new book. I vary between dystopia, post-apocalypse, and political thriller. It is about the early stages of society's collapse as the USA begins to break apart. There are no zombies, vampires, or meteors. But there are militias, gangs, and controlling politicians.
I would love to hear some advice about what I should call the genre.
Thanks,
Dave
