Even though she spent decades writing for fun, it took many more years of Theresa Butler's adult life to realize her heart truly belonged in a book, not in a veterinary science lab. So she changed her college major and her career trajectory, much to the chagrin of her parents, and earned a double BA in English and Psychology from Ottawa University. Three years after that, she finished a Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University with a specialization in short and long fiction.

Theresa is also owner of Butler Did It Publishing, a boutique indie imprint she uses to support and guide new writers, as well as more seasoned writers, embarking on their own writing and publishing careers.

I know it sounds counter intuitive, but I fully believe that writer's block is in large part due to a word/creativity deficit--if you've written too much and not kept up reading and doing other creative things like maybe visiting an art museum or something, you're not going to find the inspiration needed to keep writing. Of course, you can't let the time off go too long or you'll be out of practice and it'll be even harder to start writing again.(less)

I know it sounds cliche, but I started writing as young girl because I wanted to escape into the fantasy of the worlds I created in my head, and have them play out the way I wanted. It has helped me incorporate real life into fantasy life and work out things I'm going through at any time. And it's relaxing. Except when I have writer's block and have to wheedle it out of the dark recesses of my brain.(less)

WEBSITE REDESIGN

I’m not sure who all is checking out the website, but I wanted to leave a note saying that we will be redesigning the website in the coming month.  The current layout was just to get started as I learned WordPress (ah, the unending lessons in coding!), so I hope to have a prettier, cleaner, and more “professional” site up as soon as I get around to it.

In other news, I’m happy to say that a pretty

H.G. Wells
“It sounds plausible enough tonight, but wait until tomorrow. Wait for the common sense of the morning.”
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine

H.G. Wells
“There are really four dimensions, three which we call the three planes of Space, and a fourth, Time.”
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine

H.G. Wells
“That is the germ of my great discovery. But you are wrong to say that we cannot move about in Time. For instance, if I am recalling an incident very vividly I go back to the instant of its occurrence: I become absent-minded, as you say. I jump back for a moment. Of course we have no means of staying back for any length of Time, any more than a savage or an animal has of staying six feet above the ground. But a civilized man is better off than the savage in this respect. He can go up against gravitation in a balloon, and why should he not hope that ultimately he may be able to stop or accelerate his drift along the Time-Dimension, or even turn about and travel the other way?”
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine

H.G. Wells
“Why not?' said the Time Traveller.”
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine

Margaret Atwood
“Nolite te bastardes carborundorum. Don't let the bastards grind you down.”
Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale
