The Unbearable Beauty of Sadness

A recurring theme to which I find myself often returning is something which I have come to call nostalgic grief. My characters are often either unable to immerse themselves in the present moment or are prone to yearning for an idea place and time which may never have existed. And yes, I kind of know how they feel.

Along the way, I discuss here C.S. Lewis, Gorecki's Third Symphony, Meredith Monk, and the Spielberg/Stanley Kubrick film, AI: Artificial Intelligence (arguably the saddest movie ever made). I hope you enjoy the article. Feel free to drop me a line either here or on the site if you do. Cheers.
