It all depends. Sometimes, I'll read or watch a DVD or tv show. Sometimes, you need to walk away
. It's very easy to back yourself into a mental corner. The funny thing is that you keep painting yourself into that corner until there's nowhere else to go and even then sometimes, you'll add a fresh coat. So, it never hurts to walk away and see what comes to you later. Some of my best ideas did not come from force or starring at a computer screen. Sometimes great things happen naturally. Without effort. (less)

“If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skulls, then why do we read it? Good God, we also would be happy if we had no books and such books that make us happy we could, if need be, write ourselves. What we must have are those books that come on us like ill fortune, like the death of one we love better than ourselves, like suicide. A book must be an ice axe to break the sea frozen inside us.
What we need are books that hit us like a most painful misfortune, like the death of someone we loved more than we love ourselves, that make us feel as though we had been banished to the woods, far from any human presence, like a suicide. A book must be the ax for the frozen sea within us.”

I was years overdue for a reread of this amazing book and so I had the time and the inclination and reread. And I thought as Case misses Molly, a Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn for the cyberpunk era, I told myself th" Read more of this review »

Tales of Love & Death Vol.2 took a whole new level of relatability. Some of the stories were glimpses of my darkest past, of losing the matriarch, of family closeness but now like distant memories. I'm walking through the pain again, but knowing I'm " Read more of this review »

"Snow Job: A Winter Tale of Love & Death turned out to be a really solid introduction to Dave Joseph’s work. It’s short, sharp, and gives you a good sense of his voice without asking too much of your time.

“Never cease loving a person, and never give up hope for him, for even the prodigal son who had fallen most low, could still be saved; the bitterest enemy and also he who was your friend could again be your friend; love that has grown cold can kindle.”

“The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.”
Charles Bukowski

Frédéric Bastiat
“Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all. We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain.”

Frédéric Bastiat
“If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?”
Frederic Bastiat, The Law

Frédéric Bastiat
“Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.”
Frederic Bastiat, The Law

James Madison
“If Men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself.”
