First, remember that a memoir is often a slice of life (not every autobiographical detail is important to the story you're trying to tell). Second, I think many good memoirs investigate a question or a set of questions. What is the question that drives your book forward? For me, I began to ask how I could grieve for a person who had perhaps loved me and hurt me the most. This helped me keep my story focused and as tight as possible. Good questions lead to good, moving writing. Best of luck, and I hope the world gets to read your story!(less)
