P. S. Ballantyne is an Australian writer and critic with a penchant for pseudonyms and Pilates. Work opportunities took the author to live in the United States and United Kingdom for many years where overwhelming American hospitality and delicious English irony left lasting impressions.

Following a rare, protracted illness, the discovery that violently killing off characters was a highly therapeutic form of anger management, led to a self-published novel.

P. S. Ballantyne resides again in Australia, is a bibliophile, golfer, amateur detective and gardener, and cares for a rescue dog named after a Bond Villain.

“You!" he scorned. "You liar!" he concluded, addressing her chest.
"There's no need to get personal," she retorted, "everybody here is pretending to be something they are not.”
P.S. Ballantyne, Behind May-belle's Curtain

“But May-belle was not normal. She had the observational skills of one forced to sit on the sidelines of life, the crushing sensitivity that goes with some kinds of introversion, and the depleted self-confidence of one constantly reminded that their differences were not something to be celebrated.”
P.S. Ballantyne, Behind May-belle's Curtain

“By evening, the Curtain household numbered seven, but joy did not arrive with the child. Neither did noise, for the child had not uttered a sound. Pa, still on the porch, strained his ears for any resonances of new life, but none came. He lit a lantern, around which nocturnal insects bashed into each other sadistically, hopelessly attempting to get near the fire that would certainly kill them if they were successful.”
P.S. Ballantyne, Behind May-belle's Curtain

“Never give up... No one knows what's going to happen next.”
L. Frank Baum

“In old days there were angels who came and took men by the hand and led them away from the city of destruction. We see no white-winged angels now. But yet men are led away from threatening destruction: a hand is put into theirs, which leads them forth gently towards a calm and bright land, so that they look no more backward; and the hand may be a little child's.”
George Eliot, Silas Marner

“Animals don't behave like men,' he said. 'If they have to fight, they fight; and if they have to kill they kill. But they don't sit down and set their wits to work to devise ways of spoiling other creatures' lives and hurting them. They have dignity and animality.”
Richard Adams, Watership Down
