Hi Sharon! Apologies for the delay on this -- goodreads is especially good at hiding questions.

But good news! I have a novella-length sequel to this story completed; I'm going through edits, but hope to have it out in the next two months. It brings some of the Horned Boy's family in; they're looking for a cure to a curse afflicting one of them and think they might find it in the antique shop, but perhaps they will find it in Keith instead. It's called If Wishes Were Fishes -- I'm excited to share it with you soon!(less)

The Fae and Lies, my personal bugbear

I'm making this its own blog post because I both read and write a lot of fairy stories, and this way I can just link it to reviews or when discussing it with people, haha.

So I have this one pet peeve about fae stories, and in general I try not to let it impact my rating, because, like, pet peeves are just pet peeves, not writing flaws. I cannot emphasize enough that this is just a pet peeve, not a Read more of this blog post »

There's a lot I deeply liked in Princeweaver. The writing style was absolutely lovely, poetic and beautiful while not going overboard, still maintaining, you know, functionality. The use of Welsh mythology and culture and history, while still keeping ...more

Genuinely impressive to go back and see Hoshino setting up stuff that will pay out in a wonderful reflected narrative literally 180 chapters later.

It's been like 8 years since I last read this, time for a reread! It's interesting coming back knowing what happens, like, 200 chapters later and seeing what might have been early setup for some of these things or might have been just self-contained ...more

“It wasn't an endless future, and it wasn't one with a clearly defined goal, but maybe that was what living actually felt like.”
Meredith Katz, The Cybernetic Tea Shop

“She wondered if they would taste the same over the mere application of ingredients in the correct amounts, without the memory of Karinne explaining how to do it. . . . Logically, she knew it should taste the same regardless. Food was a matter of practical application. But to those who ate, it was full of memories, the significance of 'delicious as always.' It seemed impossible that it could taste the same if it was not made with equally tactile memories going into the cooking.”
Meredith Katz, The Cybernetic Tea Shop

“He tried to look up more about magical curses online – but as usual, the internet wasn’t a huge help, and mostly just its best to convince him he was about to die. - 'Only Human' by Meredith Katz”
