Elapsing Year

I am posting an old poem of mine. I no longer write poems, and the reason is obvious.

Elapsing Year

In the middle of winter, under an overcast sky,
One more year is about to pass me by.

She had real intelligence, brightness of mind,
It was not her beauty that charmed me,
Not her radiant smile and sparkling eyes that captured my imagination,
She had many attractive qualities, conspicuous for others,
But it was her deep and knowing eyes that enchanted and scared me.

Wish to have her was a fantasy too far,
Her spirit was free, belonging to no one,
Even to have her as a friend was rather bizarre.

In the middle of winter, under an overcast sky,
She walked off forever, without saying goodbye.

The trees began to tremble, the shadows lengthened,
The moon rose, the mosquitoes buzzed everywhere,
The sounds of running engines; people talking gave a cold comfort of time passing,
Not a whiff of her fragrance possessed the open wintry air,
Her image has become blurred in my recollection,
She has drifted away, elusive, like a ghost that never existed.

It's starting to drizzle now, steadily time marching on,
The gloom and the doom still etch in the sky,
With a wail clock is striking midnight,
The year is gone, and she is gone too!
Both would never come back again in my life,
But their memories would haunt me, and make me wonder, why?

The Fault in Our Stars

I was thinking about luck. Even though it shapes our lives, it's a subject we want to avoid, because we believe that acknowledging things beyond our control might result in people stop trying. And why talk about something that is out of our hand? Then, I read The Fault in Our Stars. The young protagonists knew they were out of time. They have despairing moments but it did not stop them from struggling, and living till the bitter end.

We are social creatures and how much blessed we feel depends on people around us. Nothing like putting things in prospective when you know someone is in worse shape than you. In The Fault in Our Stars Isaac is the luckiest of three. I suffer from the same affliction, even though it is not complete and cancer was not the cause, but I never felt particularly lucky.

Frequent visits to a specialized hospital, overhearing snatches of conversation among patients and doctors, would give you intuitive understanding of the prognoses of patients around you. People who were worse than I did not have to come for treatment, so I knew of my bottom-dweller status, which was depressing for a teenager.

Mother and I were vague when some patient inquired about our visits. I did it because I was, and still am, unhealthily introvert, and mother did it because she knew that talking about it would upset me. People who openly discuss their misfortunes recover better. As social creatures, we need to share our feelings, but some of us can't do it naturally and suffer in silence.

The Dog's Tale

After so many false starts my first book The Dog’s Tale is here.

"The summer began just like any other for our narrator Rocky, a shy little thing. Like most dogs he loved to spend time with children, watching them play harmless pranks. They all were unaware that Addison, a quiet town, was hiding a secret. Arrival of a stranger was about to shatter the peace, leading to discoveries and adventures."

I am depending on your support and feedback.

Check it out on Kindle Amazon.
