LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE LET ME INTRODUCE TO YOU, AMANDA JONES.
I’ve been working a little with Amanda in the past few months and I’ve got to say that I expect huge things from her. She’s a talented writer, has a great personality, and hustles her ass off promoting her work. Her first book, The Fallen Chronicles: Dark Angel, was recently published by New Concepts Publishing and she’s currently on a blogging book tour, organized by Bewitching Blog Tours, to get the word out about her series. I was able to steal a few moments of her time in order to get the following interview. I found the answers insightful and full of promise for any of you new writers out there who may be doubting yourself. So, without further ado, Amanda Jones!
CAN YOU GIVE THE READERS A BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF WHAT THE FALLEN CHRONICLES SERIES IS ALL ABOUT?
The Fallen Chronicles is a new paranormal romance series that follows a group of angels that have been cast out of the heavens to live caught between the human world and the demonic realm of Sheol. Fate is a fickle mistress, and through a series of events, our anti-heroes are forced to confront their tortured pasts in order to figure out who they really want to be. Dangerous battles and sexy encounters ensue!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THE BOOKS?
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wondered what makes the bad guy bad. I’m also interested in cause and effect, how our actions ripple out and change the world we live in. So, when I decided to write The Fallen Chronicles I wanted to fall in love with anti-heroes. Angels are generally portrayed as perfect beacons of goodness and hope – so why not tell a story about the ultimate angels of darkness.
When you look at why these angels fell it’s actually pretty relatable (in my version at any rate!) – jealousy, hubris, and immaturity…I think we’ve all been there at some point…minus the world changing apocalyptic effects! Given the right motivation and circumstance, can they grab what’s left of the light inside them and make the right choice? I also wanted to explore whether it’s possible to hate the thing someone has done in their past without hating the person in their present.
Throughout the course of this series, we will definitely see some traditionally pure angels and some avenging angels, but they all have a story to tell. Love is a powerful force that has the ability to both motivate and destroy. This little crew of fallen angels has gone through the ringer and everyone will have to face their past and come to terms with who and what they’re becoming.
In everyone’s life change is inevitable, and there are always opportunities to make different choices. In the end is there really pure goodness or pure evil, or are we all just operating in shades of gray?
CAN YOU GIVE US A SPOILER-FREE PREVIEW OF WHAT WE CAN EXPECT DOWN THE ROAD?
The third book in the series, Forbidden Angel, follows Alex – a vampire we meet in Broken Angel (book 2) and his connection to a mysterious psych patient being hunted by forces of both the dark and the light.
“As he turned to leave a petite figure in the corner of the room caught his eye. The electric tingling of his skin intensified as his eyes locked with hers. Alex sucked in a breath. Her hair was long and knotted, and her face was pale from lack of sunlight, but she was still the most stunning woman he’d ever laid his eyes on. His heart had been still for centuries, but Alex could have sworn he felt it clench when he saw the pain and sadness swirling deep within her unusual black eyes. He was drawn toward her like she was his magnetic north – his feet moving of their own accord – but as he drew closer he watched those entrancing eyes clouded over as whatever monsters living inside her head won an inner battle for control.”
WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST OBSTACLE TO OVERCOME WHILE WRITING THE BOOKS AND HOW DID YOU GET PAST IT?
The biggest obstacle to starting the series was the scope of it – I kept thinking there was no way on earth I’d be able to write a full novel – it just seemed so long! Once I got going, the story flowed and took shape. I still have issues with that nagging voice in the back of my head that makes me worry the stories won’t be any good!
WHAT WAS THE FIRST BOOK/STORY YOU READ THAT MADE YOU THINK THAT BEING A WRITER WAS THE PATH YOU WANTED TO TAKE?
I think Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles made me fall in love with the paranormal as a teenager…the writing was actually a happy accident. I’d played around with writing screenplays in the past, but found that I was a much more visual writer and decided to try my hand at writing a full-length novel. I was always that weird kid at school that loved the essay assignments, so I guess it was inevitable in a way.
WHAT IS YOUR WRITING ROUTINE LIKE?
My routine usually involves a metric ton of caffeine, the wee hours of the morning, my couch, and a TV show I’ve watched a zillion times before set on “play all” for background noise (right now it’s the X-Files but I’ve gone through every incarnation of Star Trek, Stargate SG1, Bones, and Ghost Hunters as well).
DO YOU BELIEVE IN WRITER’S BLOCK AND, IF SO, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO TO GET OUT OF THAT PLACE?
Yes and no – for me it’s more like the stories are unfolding in my head faster than I can write them at times. I know where the plot needs to go, but occasionally have issues finding the right words to start me on that path. There are a few things I do to get out of that funk – I’ll leave the story alone for a while, I’ll listen to music that puts me in the right head space, or I sit down at the computer and force myself to write until the story flows again. Sometimes the simple act of sitting down and writing SOMETHING…ANYTHING…helps blow out the cobwebs and a sentence I fall in love with comes out and BAM I’m back!
ANY SHOUT-OUTS YOU WANT TO GIVE ANYONE?
Without the help of my fabulous and patient editor Kristan Roetker (owner of Edit LLC), these books would be error-riddled flaming garbage piles! Her attention to detail is astounding and I just hope she knows how much I appreciate all she’s done for The Fallen Chronicles!
Joe Forrest – I don’t know how you managed to pull it off, but you made me look good!!! Every author needs an attractive, informative, easy to navigate website – it wouldn’t have happened without your help!
It takes a village to get a new series off the ground – here are a few folks who gave me the confidence and inspiration to keep going:
Stacey is Sassy!
Carla Maggiolo
Frank Caruso
Filippo Nativo
Richard Goodship
Roxanne Rhoads
SOUNDS PRETTY DAMN GOOD, DOESN’T IT?
Well, we’re going to do you one better. How about a short excerpt from her second book, Broken Angel? That’s two free previews in one article. Pretty good, eh?
“Before she could react, B sat up and grabbed her with his freshly set hand, drawing her face towards his. He felt his heart leap as their lips touched ever so gently at first. He’d dreamed of kissing her since the first time he’d laid eyes on her, and could only hope that the feelings she’d admitted to were true. Her lips moved softly upon his, her tongue darting out to lick along the line of his lips. B opened his mouth and let her in, their tongues sliding together sensually as his body came to life. It was a feeling he thought he’d never fully experience, the blood pounding in his veins, his heart jumping in his chest. Mara’s arms came up to circle him, one around his back, the other sliding up his neck, her nails raking along his scalp near the nape of his neck. The tiny shivers from her sharp little nails were more erotic than any sexual experience he’d ever had. B’s heart felt like it was soaring free. Maybe there really could be a happy ending for him.”

KICK-ASS SUPERNATURAL HEROINES
Check out the posting (with photos!) on:

Top Ten Kick Ass Supernatural Heroines
We spend a lot of time dreaming about our favourite Hottie Mc-Hot-Hot supernatural heroes (well I do at any rate!), but what about the kick ass heroines that put the entire genre to shame? I don’t know about you, but a story with a droolworthy hero AND a confident, booty kicking leading lady is a recipe for MY list of favourites any day!
Some way, somehow, these tough as nails women find a way to beat down their rivals (both physically AND mentally) without breaking a nail. Why am I so drawn to these particular leading ladies? No matter what trials and tribulations they go through, you can’t keep a good woman down! Each and every one of them comes back swinging twice as hard. They’re tough and feminine, strong and vulnerable, beautiful and intelligent. These ladies aren’t afraid to speak their minds, and don’t deign to suffer douchebaggery of any variety. I don’t know about you, but I’d be more than happy to strike fear into the realm of the supernatural for all those reasons!
Some of them are good, some are evil, but ALL of them have proven themselves to be the equal of any hero in their stories. These are the ladies I’d love nothing more than to head to bar and have a drink with – possibly wearing some form of body armour for my own protection! Let’s raise a glass to these kick ass women!
1) Buffy Summers – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
2) Tara Thornton – True Blood
3) Emma Swan – Once Upon a Time
4) Regina Mills – Once Upon a Time
5) Meg Masters – Supernatural
6) Michonne – The Walking Dead
7) Selene – Underworld
8) Maleficent – Maleficent
9) Bo Dennis – Lost Girl
10) Evony Fleurette Marquise – Lost Girl

Supernatural Bad Boys We Can't Help But Love!
Guest blog post originally appeared on:

Check out the original post - it has pictures ;-)
I don’t know about you, but there’s something I can’t help but love about the supernatural bad boys of the celluloid world. I’m not quite sure what it is – the cockiness, the alpha possessiveness, or the complete disregard of what anyone thinks of them. They all seem to share a similar air of “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn!” Call me crazy, but in a world where we’re bombarded with images of what we “should” be, I find it alluring. Whether it’s True Blood’s Eric Northman, Buffy’s Spike, or Klaus from The Vampire Diaries – there’s something appealing about their belief in their own infallibility (justified or not!). I guess that would be a side effect of being immortal…who really cares what anybody thinks – trends, people, and behaviors will change and die over time, and you’re going to see a lot of it if you’ll be living forever!
There are a lot of downsides to these killer hotties – most are portrayed as tortured souls who have hardened over time, but for me watching these characters is like getting immersed in a grown-up fairy tale. Maybe it’s the periodic hook we get when we see the softer side of these hard as nails characters. A little escapism never killed anyone ;-)
It’s absolutely insane to actually WANT one of these book/movie boyfriends in real life – I don’t actually want to BE dinner when I go on a dinner date. Despite all that and in honor of the many enjoyable hours I’ve spent vegging out getting immersed in their film and TV worlds, here’s a list of MY top 10 favorite supernatural bad boys!
1) Eric Northman – True Blood
2) Spike – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
3) Aidan Waite – Being Human (American version)
4) Mitchell – Being Human (UK version)
5) Alcide Herveaux – True Blood
6) Dyson – Lost Girl
7) Damon Salvatore – The Vampire Diaries
8) Klaus Mikaelson – The Vampire Diaries
9) Captain Hook – Once Upon a Time
10) Logan – X-Men

Writer’s Block – Perks and Drawbacks
Blog post originally appears on:
www.roxannerhoads.com Roxanne's Realm
Chapter fifteen of The Fallen Chronicles: Forbidden Angel is proving to be the bane of my existence this week so let me share my experience from Monday to Friday!
Why Writer’s Block Sucks:
1) Turning on my laptop and staring at a flashing cursor like my brain is a slug going uphill through molasses in winter.
2) Actually becoming hypnotized by the repeated flashing of said cursor.
3) I start participating in the imaginary arguments between fictional characters in my head…leading to…
4) Wondering if I have a real need for anti-psychotic medication.
5) Frustration building to the point where I’d willingly trade places with ANY of my characters – including the ones currently trapped in the Abyss of Souls…the darkness may allow me to get some sleep!
Why Writer’s Block Rocks:
1) My home has never been so well vacuumed – despite the vacuuming occurring repeatedly at 3am…(the house is clean, but the cats are terrified!).
2) The crown moulding in my living room finally got painted…at midnight…two nights in a row…
3) I’ve gotten halfway through re-watching Star Trek Deep Space Nine for the first time since it aired and love it as much as I did the first time (thank you NetFlix)!
4) Driving around in the middle of the night playing my favourite tunes with nobody else on the road (as I try to plug a plot hole) is relaxing.
5) I get to share this experience with everyone in the Blogosphere! Poking fun at something we all go through as authors makes it so much more fun!

From the diary of Satan...
Original blog post appears on:

From the diary of Satan – Supreme Sheolic Overlord, Emperor of the 666 Legions, Source of all Evil.
Dear Diary
Today was a pretty average day – there were a few light tortures in the morning, followed by lunch with Famine, and a game of chess with War. Checked in on Death this afternoon – he has quite a lovely prisoner in his lair… haven’t seen Pestilence around today – he’s had a nasty bout of the flu – note to self – bring him a Tupperware of chicken soup.
This evening I spent a few hours chillin’ in my office with some music – still trying to master the N’Sync “Bye Bye Bye” puppet dance – I’d like to have it ready for the Sheolic talent contest – I know just which prisoners to string up next to me as props! There’s no business like show business!
Had the castle’s mage work a spell to enhance our WiFi signal. I plan to take over the Twitterverse by morning! Straight from Sheol into your homes via @theonetruesatan!!! I must remember to take some cute videos of my re-animated kitty Pookie Pie for upload…those humans love their cat videos.
My butler had our resident mage design me a new RPG game for my PS4! Can’t wait to decimate those dirty angels in the virtual world AND the real world.
I guess that’s all for now – I do have an underworld to run! ‘Til tomorrow dear diary!
Satan – slayer of real AND virtual angels, dancer extraordinaire!
P.S. I had my minions do the Harlem Shake – video got over 100 likes!!!
P.P.S. People seem to think my social media accounts are marketing ploys for some new movie release…what the Sheol!

1) Ever wanted to join the mile high club? Dating an angel makes the mile high club easy to check off your bucket list - not to mention avoiding all those pesky airline regulations!
2) Immortality! Your angel is hot hot, smokin’ hot…and always will be!
3) Tired of the “perfection” of the regular run-of-the-mill angel? Your fallen angel has seen both the dark and the sexy side of the universe…
4) That amazingly toned body! Spreading those amazing wings and flying does wonders for muscle tone…yum!
5) Of all the supernatural creatures in all the realms, your fallen angel has the lowest probability of killing you – on purpose or accidentally (unlike your vampire or lycan ex…).
6) He’s got that sexy Sigil tattoo!!!
7) He has that slightly angelic glow, but rocks the biker chic look with style!
8) He can wrap you up in those powerful wings and make the entire world disappear.
9) Always wanted to travel? You and your fallen can fly to all the hottest vacation spots together, just wrap your arms around him and hold on tight!

Writing Dark Angel...
Original blog post appears on:
http://fang-tasticbooks.blogspot.com/
I’m not sure why, but as soon as the sun goes down it’s witching hour for writing about the paranormal…For some reason full 8am sunlight doesn’t seem to put me in the right head space for tales of demonic realms, tortured souls, and finding one’s elusive soul mate. There are lots of little things I’ve discovered throughout the writing process that help get the creative juices flowing. The right time of day, the right music, the right background noise TV show to have playing on repeat. Here’s a little look behind the scenes at what helps get me writing!
Dark Angel soundtrack:
This is a small selection of some of the music that gets my fingers clicking on the keyboard!
Can You Feel My Heart – Bring Me The Horizon
Between Angels and Insects – Papa Roach
Machinehead/Comedown/Mouth/Glycerine – Bush
Madness/Uprising – Muse
Twisted Transistor – Korn
Click Click Boom – Saliva
Temptation/Psychopomp – The Tea Party
Megalomaniac/Juke-Joint Jezebel – KMFDM
Almost Honest - Megadeth
TV Shows I Play when Writing:
1) Star Trek Enterprise/Voyager/Deep Space Nine – any one of the many Star Trek movies…you get the picture! My inner nerd is showing here…!!!!
2) Bones – I heart David Boreanaz…and I own every season on DVD…
3) Downton Abbey – I’ll admit to having watched this series from start to finish at least 4 or 5 times while writing.
4) Any BBC Documentary on the “Great Houses of Britain” that I can find on Netflix…I’m an architecture/history junkie.

blushing, hiding, ducking for cover...eeek!
Ok, so I really hate the sound of my own voice...somehow I feel like I always manage to sound like Cher from Clueless (in my mind anyhow) on any recording...
That being said - I had the opportunity to speak to Gayle on Blog Talk Radio yesterday (she's fabulous btw).
Feel free to listen to the cringe-worthy sound of my voice as we chat about Dark Angel...and my cats :-P

Enjoy!
