Good Health and Happiness Go Together!

In the name of working hard, we miss our lunch, do not find time to exercise, forget to have water in between and enjoy many cups of sweet tea missing out on proper sleep too. This stands true for nearly all of us. After all, it is a competitive world and we have put in efforts and studied to excel. We have to earn money for enjoying a decent standard of living... Have you ever wondered that such a life style can make you sick?

What is meant by Good Health

Good health does not include only good physical health. It also encompasses good mental health along with deposits in your social and emotional bank. We get busy with our job and find little time for ourselves. We do not listen to our bodies, pay little heed to what makes us happy and just keep running.

Slow down a bit and access your life. Stop today while you are fine and healthy, otherwise we are forced to rest as a sick and indisposed person!

Right Nutrition: Need of the Hour

Right nutrition, exercise, proper sleep (at least 4 hours), drinking enough water throughout the day, keeping our body clean, having some time just for sitting in silence, reading a page of your favourite book or listening to 3 minutes of your favourite song --- all these can do wonders to your life. You will actually be a happy and satisfied person bringing joy in the lives of all those who come in contact with you.

It pains me when I stand near the milk shop in the evening and watch young men stop for a chit chat near the shop while enjoying soft drinks, cigarettes and chips. What nutrition did they take in after a full day of hard work in office?

On the other hand, in the club, I am delighted to find young boys playing badminton, table tennis and snooker. They are in the company of sports while learning discipline and the need to keep fit for playing their sport well. I really feel that to bring up a boy or girl well, one needs to introduce them to any sport of their choice. Indoor sports keep you away from unwarranted company and other beverages and bad habits which you may pick up from others.

Live Life to the Fullest

There are many bungalows near my house. One of these stands apart from the rest. It is so beautifully decorated that you will just want to stop in front of this house and love to look at the beauty and love all around it. There are lovely ethnic paintings on the boundary wall, flowers all around the garden and a swing in the centre with a big search light fitted on it. Then, there are some beautiful bird houses that look fabulous. It shows the 'awareness' with which the occupant is living in the house.

When my neighbour stepped into the house, back from hospital after giving birth to twins, her husband decorated the entrance with colourful balloons. WOW! There was so much love in the air. What a welcome! Life is composed of such precious moments --- little gestures of love which cannot be compared to anything money can buy.

Health means Everything in Life

'If health is lost, everything is lost' --- today I really understand the actual meaning of this simple statement. Most people start morning walks when they are diagnosed with diabetes, blood pressure or other ailments. Why wait? Why don't you start today? Just 2 kms. of brisk walk can work wonders for your agility, stamina and overall personality. Join yoga classes for exercise and meditation or zumba dance classes for recreation along with exercise and keep fit. Hit your nearest gymnasium but practice push ups and other exercises only under a well trained instructor.

Take Care of Your mental Health through Spirituality

Spirituality must be your way of life. It teaches you how to live life and stand up tall even in the face of difficulties. When my family member was diagnosed with cancer, we had to plan out for treatment in another city, taking care of our kids too. It was not easy but our spiritual muscles were strong. We prayed, took the treatment, read some wonderful books which elevated our spirits, emboldened us and reiterated our faith in the power of thought to heal our bodies. With medicines, it was mostly meditation, prayer and positive thinking that worked wonders leading to healing.

Good Health is the Best Bank Balance of your Life!

What sort of life are you living? Is it a life full of positive energy and good health? Take care of some simple points mentioned below and realign to a healthy life ---

1. Do not have 'gutka' or 'paan' or cigarette/bidi. Leave these at once and be in gratitude for your good health. Even visualizing the scene of a cancer hospital with its long drawn treatment can make you shudder. Leave these NOW if you have been taking these injurious things.

2. Have proper sleep, fruits, enough water every two hours (even while in office), coconut water, orange juice, green vegetables and less of tinned food. It is a good idea to become a vegetarian.

3. Take care of your body by keeping it clean, bathing regularly and wearing good and colourful clothes keeping in mind the latest fashion trends. After all, there is more to life than just working for your job the whole day (and night!).

4. Befriend people with professions different than yours so that you get an idea of life and living other than yours.

5. Have a hobby. Give a good 10 minutes to something you love to do --- be it singing, painting, sketching, cycling, playing the guitar or learning a new language.

6. Never retaliate or get into an argument. Change the topic or leave the scene but don't become a part of negativity. Be in control always for this keeps you empowered. Anger and irritation make you look weak and like a 'victim'. Be a victor instead. Learn to manage people rather than getting effected by them.

7. Never gossip. Use your time for better and bigger ideas rather than discussing other people you do not care about. Why give them space in your mind for free? Also, such negative conversations and thoughts deplete your energy.

8. Past is gone. Look forward towards the future. Never crib. Never repent. You can always start afresh on the canvas of your own beautiful life. Get up and start again. I know, you will!

9. Say 'no' to people who pull you down, say 'no' to work that is not on your priority list and concentrate on nurturing your own health, happiness, mental well being and that of your family.

Make Lifestyle Changes for Better Health and Happiness

The Head of Department of a really big organization is lying sick with kidney malfunction. Imagine, is it possible for him to concentrate in his office work? No! He has to go for dialysis and have medicines. Another friend has to take insulin injections twice daily. They all have kept a brave front but would it not be better if we learn from all of them and make a few life style changes for better health and happiness.

Well, don't start from today, start from now! Have clean water in place of sweetened tea, smile more, thank the Almighty for your life and all good things and people around you. Live life, love life for a healthy life is really, really beautiful! All your riches can not bring back your good health. Stay fit, stay healthy!
