The final two volumes were easier and more interesting reads than the first two. It did make me want to reread the story as soon as I was done, but not badly enough to actually do it soon. It dumps a lot of information on the reader at the end, and t ...more

Ostensibly for the Classical high school student, but good for parents to read as well. We all need reminders from time to time about why we're doing the things we're doing. Short and succinct. ...more

Leadership and The Sin of Empathy by Joe Rigney

Very good summary of one of the main problems of our times. Biblical, pastoral. Every leader should read it, and the book that helped inspire it, "A Failure of Nerve."

The final chapter on proper compassion, using Jesus as an example, is fantastic.

Shadows Upon Time by Christopher Ruocchio

A worthy end to the series, though it ends on a bit of a downer. Which is what we were led to expect. He told us up front. Or is it? There are hints throughout the series that Hadrian is an unreliable narrator, and all may not be as it seems.

Not near as much fun as Flint. A classic coming of age story, but probably too long, and I wonder if it could have used at least one more edit. The narrator gives several long monologues reminiscent of Ayn Rand, monologues that feel more like the aut ...more

The author pulls a Perelandra with a dash of The Great Divorce. One big scene after another, and revelations galore. I didn't expect the story to go where it went, but I'm here for it. ...more
