Authors like Stephen R. Donaldson, Douglas Adams, and Glen Cook transported Hyrum through a rough childhood. Science fiction and fantasy were not just entertaining but also emotionally resonant and deeply therapeutic.

Along the way, he earned degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering, completed a master’s thesis on plasma processing, and spent 18 years at a Taiwanese semiconductor company. He now works in a completely different field, making EV batteries for a Korean firm.

Although he integrates a broad scientific background into his writing, it’s always the human element that matters most. Every life is a story, and he enjoys bringing a new story to life.

No matt…moreSo, I've always liked to write stories. I had finished a few short stories and started several novels which are what I really wanted to write. No matter how much work and effort I put into writing a novel, however, I always ran into some mysterious creative block. I just lost interest in every story. They felt empty, devoid of meaning. Then I discovered the truth about my religion, abandoned it, and entered the real world.
Once I left religion, my writing motivation just fell into place. I chose to write the theme that I actually experienced, leaving my metaphorical, religion-based home, and wrote it into a novel called "Silent Subversion I". It's filled with ideas and theories that interest me. That's what keeps me writing.(less)
