Marty Conley has been telling crazy stories his whole life - mostly because crazy things always seem to happen to him. Born in the Bronx, New York, Marty grew up in Massachusetts where he played hockey, baseball, football, and even boxing. He now teaches English at a middle school outside Boston where his students love to hear his 'Mr. Conley' stories - none of which they seem to believe - even though they're all true! This is Marty's debut novel, the first in a planned trilogy that will follow Myles Walsh through middle school while revealing the many stories that await him. ...more

I have encountered the situation of being a bit stuck on how best to write a scene or how to transition from one scene or event to another. What's worked for me is to just go with whatever pops into my head no matter how crazy it seems - it gets me started and always seems to lead to something that I never would have thought of otherwise.(less)

I've also written the first page - but there's a strong likelihood the final draft will look much different than this first draft. But, getting an outline completed has me all fired up to get writing - I'm just waiting for my high school coaching season to end so that I can dedicate the time I need to get some serious writing done. Myles Walsh, along with his friends, Brady, Kat and Jogesh, will discover that 'stories have a way of finding storytellers.' The craziness will continue!! And as before, all the stories are true - I promise!(less)

The Dead Man Story - Television Interview

Big thanks to Chelmsford Telemedia, and show host Dean Contover, for having me as a guest on the Current Buzz to discuss The Dead Man Story. It was a great thrill to talk about the reasons for writing the book and what makes Myles Walsh such an interesting character.
